I hadn't been impressed with a lot of Patterson's latest titles so I was surprised to enjoy this one. This book picks up where the book "I, Michael Bennett" leaves off. Manuel Perrine, a powerful drug lord, has escaped from custody and NYPD detective Michael Bennett and his 10 children are now on his hit list and they are moved into the witness protection program. This story picks up 9 months later with he and the kids going crazy on a dairy farm in California. Perrine starts taking out his contacts in the US in scary ways and still on the hunt for the Bennetts. Of course, Michael is called back to duty and away from his family to catch him.

A fair 3.5 stars. An easy crime-drama read that's entertaining.

I wanted to love this, and I did. Until the last six chapters or so. The...suspense was taken out, and everything happened so fast! :(

So awful, had to skim to get through it. So ridiculous, just a setting stupid outrageous events. James Patterson in not like he used to be, just pounding out the books, all the same, I will hesitate to buy any more of his books in the future.

This series is going downhill for me. Did not enjoy it as much as the last ones. Not my favourite of Patterson's series.

I had trouble finishing this book. It had some very shocking parts, more disgusting along with shocking honestly, but I can handle that if the story is good. This story didn't really grip me and I nearly took it back to the library without even bothering to find out how it ended. However, I decided to go ahead and finish it just in case it had a spectacular ending or something. It didn't really. It's not a horrible book, but I have read much better from this author.

Every once in a while I have to read a murder and mayhem book. I mean, after luxuriating in The Help.... That's when I turn to Patterson. Sometimes I only get a couple of chapters into his books before trashing them. But once in a while I get through a book -- like this one. Many people die as a Mexican drug lord basically declares war on the United States. There is indeed much death and destruction. Of course, the good guys prevail; the bad guys get the crap beaten out of them -- but not before inflicting a whole lot of damage. This is all done within a semblance of a plot and characters who are a cut, but just a cut, above 2-dimensional. But what does Patterson care what I think? He has the formula down pat and is laughing all the way to the bank. If you like shoot 'em up books, you'll probably enjoy this one.
