Maybe 2.5 stars, but something was off with either the new author or the new translator. I thought the series had wrapped up nicely with book six, but I guess someone felt there was more money to be made. The writing was stilted, main characters were underused or completely changed in tone, and the plot was something about evil cartoon villains taking over the wind farming industry. I don't know who greenlighted the continuation of this series, but it was not well done.

It is not worth reading the book. Complete waste of my time.

I've really enjoyed this series, even through the change in authors.

Mikael Blomkvist has been an investigative journalist with Millenium for 31 years, they have just published they final physical edition and he does not know where he wants to go from here. He is taking time to visit his estranged daughter and her son, as she prepares to get married. This takes him to a small municipality called Gasskas.

Lisbeth also ends up in Gasskas. Her niece's mother has disappeared and Lisbeth is the relative contacted to take care of her.

Mikael's soon to be son-in-law is a municipal leader. On the surface he has everything going for him. But beneath it all he is being threatened by an unspeakably evil man heading a company that wants complete control over the windfarm venture he is spearheading.

Eventually Mikael and Lisbeth's paths come together, when Mikael's grandson is kidnapped.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
All opinions are my own.

New author, who dis? Not anyone I would be interested in reading again. Besides the insanely choppy plot and the most disgusting of villains, it's like it was written by someone who never read the original Larsson versions of the books. I get it, this is a super weird criticism, but one of the quirks of the series is the INSANE amount of detail they go into about Blomkvist's sandwiches. In this book? Nary a descriptive sandwich in sight, and that was insanely disappointing to me.
I will not recommend this to others, and I will not continue on with the series if it's written by Smirnoff.

Thank you to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for the ARC!

Couldn’t resist a book from the Larsson series. It kept me reading but there were a few odd turns, um the Santa hotel?? Interesting take on Lisbeth, pretty sure Larsson would be rolling in his grave, but who doesn’t want more time with her!

The Girl in the Eagle's Talons is an interesting continuation of the series. Although there has been much criticism from the community, I didn’t find the book as awful as people make it seem.

The book is fairly paced; it’s a bit slow at the beginning but makes up for it midway through. The story unfolds through various viewpoints, offering insights and building intrigue at times, which is interesting in a sense, but it can also cause confusion in certain sections.

The distinction between characters' thoughts and spoken words is sometimes unclear at the beginning, which adds to the complexity of the narrative. However, once you get used to it, it becomes much easier to determine which thoughts and spoken words belong to which character.

In the end, it’s a very nice and fast read. Now, it's time to wait for the continuation of the story.
