I enjoyed this book. I did not realise this was part of a series, and it was funny I had also read the book before in this series and hadn’t realised.
One thing I did pick up that was a bit strange, on the blurb on back of book, it states ...when multiple attempts on Aiden’s life are made.... but during the book I kept waiting for the attempt/s - not one, the attempts in my book were on Cordie not Aiden, so I’m not sure if I was missing a few chapters or the book cover was incorrect and whomever wrote the blurb on the back got confused with names or perhaps didn’t even read the book...
So Cordie has had a crush on Aiden since she was a child, but following her father’s heart attack she makes some decisions, like moving to another city (away from Aiden). She learns some things about her mother that she was not aware of.
These things she learns have big repercusions for Cordie and those that love her close ranks around her and try to keep her safe.
Aiden is smart, big and strong, good looking and apparently a top noth lover, but he also is quite chavenistic, he makes decisions for Cordie all through the book, I teeter between he’s a good guy, I’d like him on my side to what an a$$, he’d drive me nuts with his attitude.
Good news is you can read this book as a stand alone and the even better news is if you like book series, there are currently 13 or 14 books in this series....and I’m off to add these to my book buying wishlist.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be considering how horrible Aiden was in Murder List, but he was still an alphahole. It doesn’t matter that the fmc knows how he is and sort of knows how to deal with him, he is still super rude to her. How is the couple supposed to work long term when the mmc is never going to be emotionally available? The fmc was also very annoying; I get her unrequited love story line, but her internal dialogue got annoying at times. Same as in Fire and Ice, the fmc had a better relationship with Alec than with the mmc. The mystery was also boring, so the book dragged on in places just to make sure the mcs were stuck together. I still have the same issues as the past books where the mmc hooks up the fmc and has zero conversations with her about what will happen next. I understand that they are supposed to be alphaholes but I still can't believe they did not have one single conversation about what would happen after they got back to the US, or after she was safe. The friends' personalities seemed to change from their own books, they just came off as annoying while the men were all heroic.
Cordie and Aidan got their HEA!
I have really been looking forward to this book and can say that if you have been enjoying Garwood lately, you'll like this book.
Cordie has been in love with Aidan since she was five years old. But he's always looked at her as a sister. When her father dies, Cordie decides it's time for her to get over Aidan, move away, and get on with her life.
Her friends are conspiring not to let her leave and, while helping her to search for the mother that she never even knew was alive, Aidan starts to realize that Cordie might just be the woman he's been looking for....
I recently read "Change of Heart" by Jude Deveraux and have been struggling to figure out why that alpha male annoyed me so much more than Aidan. Both were supremely confident and autocratic, but I think that Aidan was more receptive to Cordie and her demands. Also, I think their shared history helped to create more of a bond than what I saw in the other story. Where Eli really did seem to be just a jerk, Aidan actually cared and had a (current) connection to Cordie.
While this book shows a slightly softer Corsie than I had gotten from previous books in the series, I still enjoyed the ride. And hearing my friend laugh out loud as she read it also opened me up I some of the more hilarious parts of the story.

Julie Garwood's historical romances are still my go-to books for re-reading and comfort. Her contemporary novels do not hold the same magic but still retains the some charm. Fast Track is touted as romantic suspense but if you have been reading the previous books in the series, you know there's not too much suspense or mystery everything is fairly evident early on but the romance part of it is usually the exciting element of the book. Here the chemistry between Aiden and Cordelia was not as stirring but I still loved the witty and sassy dialogue banter between the 2 of them.
Any of these books can be read as standalone's even though they are part of the series except that some of the characters do repeat in some books. The stories are mostly similar but if one is looking for some lighthearted easy romance with a dash of suspense, Fast Track is exactly the answer.
