I was pleasantly surprised with this book. The author skillfully blended quirky humour and really life issues. I’ve long wished to visit the Florida keys, and this book has added to that desire.

I feel like it's been a long time since I've read Meg Cabot, because really I've mostly read her adult contemporary romance as opposed to her YA books. This book was exactly what I loved about her books back in the day when I first fell in love with her writing. I loved the romance between Bree and Drew. It was a perfect rom-com/chick flick type of story. It was also fun to read this, well, not sure if fun is exactly the right word, but it seems as if it is the perfect time to read a love story set in a hurricane since it is right in the middle of hurricane season. There was a lot of fun stuff about the little island preparing to either evacuate or hunkering down to ride out the storm. All the quirky small town characters made for a great story as well. There was definitely the sexy scenes, if not quite as many as some of the other authors I read today, definitely still enough steam and chemistry to make it a perfect fit for my favorite type of read. Obviously it was a short time period that it took place since it was from a day or two before the hurricane until a day or two after, leading into an epilogue of several months after. Highly recommend this one, and hope to see more of this type of read again from Meg Cabot in the future.

This was my first Meg Cabot book and I really enjoyed this book.
A hurricane is headed straight for Little Bridge Island and Bree has no intention to leaves no matter who tries to persuade her.
After the hurricane hits she finds herself helping residents who fled without their pets. Making sure the animals are fed and safe all with the help of Drew, her boss' nephew. Before she knows it she finds herself attracted to him.
This book was just sweet.

Uhm. There is so much phenomenal stupidity here that I had a hard time believing what I was reading. I think I finished the book on the power of incredulity alone...

Very few things here made sense. Everybody is colossally irresponsible to the point of weirdness and nobody calls it out. The main character is putting herself in needless danger, repeatedly endangers her pet while using the same pet as a convenient excuse for her stupidity. Her way of "dealing" with the person who had assaulted her in the past was also weird, pointless and accomplished exactly nothing.

Her romantic interest is a possessive violent jerk, but, apparently, all is forgiven because he is occasionally nice to some animals. Not to mention that the entirety of the romantic interest itself is reduced to insta-lust.

No. Just no. The author should stick to writing fairytales for teenagers.

A cute, fun, "beach read" romance. Nothing earth-shattering, but there's nothing wrong with that! If you're in the mood for a cute romance, this fits the bill!

Bree has moved to Little Bridge Island to start over after a bad relationship (and get away from her mother). Everything is going great until a hurricane is about to hit. While all of the tourists and most of the locals evacuate, Bree can't bring herself to leave her beloved (and ailing) cat behind and has no way to take him with her, so she settles in and hunkers down.

After surviving the storm, she finds out that some of the residents escaped the island but left their pets behind. With the bridge out, and no way for the owners to get back to the animal loved ones, Bree takes it upon herself to start taking care of them. But she can't do it all herself, and the only person able and willing to help her is Drew - the man she's always found to be sexy, but knows she needs to resist because he's known as a heartbreaker, and she can't deal with another heartbreak after what she's been through.

But knowing she needs to resist and actually resisting are two different things...

I had some minor problems with this book (that I won't mention for fear of giving things away), and doesn't have a powerful storyline or well-rounded characters, but overall it was just what I wanted - a refreshing, cute romance. I look forward to reading other books in this series!

(I'm writing this review a while after reading the book, and the details are a bit hazy for me, my apologies!)

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an e-ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this! Meg Cabot has created a world that feels so real and I want to move there now!

Bree moved to Little Bridge after several incidents in her life cause her to need a breather from everything. Working as a waitress and trying to figure everything out starts to move on with her life and then a huge hurricane forms and makes its way to her new home. Bree works with a local guy named Drew to rescue the animals left behind during the evacuation and because of the forced closeness of this she begins to wonder if she's ready to move on with her life and deal with the feelings she is developing for Drew.

The characters were so engaging, the setting was incredible, and of course Cabot's writing had me instantly captivated and hoping for a series to get to know more about the people of Little Bridge Island.
