Would round down to 4⭐

This book was so cute! I'm remembering why I liked this series so much the first time I read it, especially with Katherine Kellgren as narrator. She was wonderful.

A fun and rather chaotic read that gave me teases masquerading as answers, ultimately leaving me with more questions than book one did! I can't wait to find out what happens next~

This second entry in the delightful world of Penelope and the Incorrigibles introduces new characters (such as the iconic Simon Harley-Dickinson, with the gleam of genius in his eye and the poetical forelock of hair), expands upon old ones, and deepens the mystery of the Ashtons and the Incorrigibles all while perfectly encapsulating the experience of traveling to and within a big city. Yet again, 5 stars for sure, my friends.

More answers were revealed about were The Incorribles might have come from. Seems there may be a connection be Miss Penelope Lumley and The Incorribles. My favorite line/paragraph from the book: "As for Miss Penelope Lumley, she had neither sextant or astrolabe. Her only means of transport was pluck, courage was the fuel that propelled her, and her North Star was determination." I think the author mixes the past with present in the book quite well. She uses metaphors from present day to help a younger audience understand things from a time period they might not be familiar with - horse and buggies, going to the theater to see live plays, getting letters by post (rather than by email), and having a governess instead of a teacher. I enjoyed the 2nd book just as much as the first.

I was THIS close to giving this book five stars. This sequel to last year's book [b:The Mysterious Howling|6609748|The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place The Mysterious Howling|Maryrose Wood|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1275641450s/6609748.jpg|6803715] continues to build on the themes themes presented in the first volume. We still don't have a lot of answers to the overarching questions (Where did the Incorrigables come from? What's going on with Lord Ashton? And how exactly does Miss Lumley fit into the whole mess?), but we do have a lot more clues. And you can't deny that the writing is a ton of fun with a tone that is a bit remoniscent of [a:Lemony Snicket|36746|Lemony Snicket|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1199734355p2/36746.jpg] - clever, but with plenty of whimsy. I'm anxious for the next volume.
