Is this an amazing book? Yes. Am I glad I read the series? Also, yes. Are Max and Tisaanah the best book couple I’ve read so far? They may be. Will I ever reread the series and subject myself to this insane amount of emotional trauma again? Nope. There were so many times I needed a break and just finishing felt like an accomplishment.

I did most of it as audiobook. It’s good with multiple narrators. The whole series is on KU though.

Favorite quotes:

“One hundred and eighty thousand days, and I thought of you in every one.”

“You were the one that wanted to save the world. I just wanted to save you.”

- I loved this last book, the beginning was a little slower but it really sets the stage for the last half of the book where it becomes a wild journey of action, politics, and romance! There are new players introduced, along with the OGs and they all strive to create a better world for the future generations. The ending, is the ending every book needs! The epilogue!! It was such a wonderful wrap up to everyone’s story & how they all made their mark on the world!

Again, this series was so good!!

I liked the 3 POVs again, it added a lot to the story to see how all three characters act independently, and then together.

It’s also kind of heartbreaking, I didn’t see that ending coming. Obviously everything has been building up to this conflict between the Arans and the Fey, but I really wasn’t sure how it was going to all go down. I was hoping for a happy ending, and I got it somewhat.

I really enjoyed Aefe’s character development. She is clearly struggling and has this strong desire for vengeance, and Caduan is willing to get that for her at any cost. She’s coming into herself as a person again (literally) and it was pretty heartbreaking. Her eventual realization that everything is coming full circle to her past was a long time coming, because I was struggling with her. I feel a lot of sympathy but also was like banging my head against the wall at some of her thoughts and decisions.

Tisaanah and Max are a couple I really love. They’re both so strong independently, and they fully support and believe in each other. Together, they really feel unstoppable. I was so happy that after everything they did get their HEA because they seriously deserve it. And they are both trying to still make the world a better place.

And still this series is heavy. It’s dark. It’s a war torn world and there is a ton of death, torture, violence, etc. I think that contributed to this series taking me a little longer to get through. I genuinely feel like I need to read some light, fluffy books as a palate cleanser.

However, this book was LONG. It took me almost a week to get through it, and so much happened that it was hard to keep track of it all. Like I genuinely feel that I have forgotten some parts of what happened, because SO much happened over the course of the 3 books, even though timing wise I think everything is happening within the course of a year. It’s just a little too fast-paced for me, and I struggled to keep up with the story. I also wished we had more background into the deeper well of magic stuff, like it drove Zeryth, Nura, and Caduan a little crazy, but I’m not entirely clear on why.

I think Carissa Broadbent is a really strong writer and writes very compelling stories. Her writing is beautiful and poetic. The magic is still a little confusing to me, but the world-building and conflicts are so good!

It’s also just a little hard for me to read this at the time I am (May 2024) and not actively relate it to current conflicts going on in the world today. I really could not help but draw comparisons to the real world, and I think that’s why this series hit me even harder. I think this series is definitely going to stick with me.

3.5⭐️ if I’m being completely honest. I loved the first two books in this series, but the final installment fell flat in my opinion. It was the Aefe chapters/storyline for me that stopped this book from being another Broadbent 5⭐️ read. I understand why Aefe deserved a story, after spending 500 years as a weapon and then finally getting her life back, but the disposition on her new life left a sour taste in my mouth. I really wanted her to fade into nothing after part one.
Aefe aside, the rest of the book was great. Max and Tissanah came full circle. They seemed to achieve all the goals that each had set out for themselves in their youth, and even expanded on those goals but pushing the limits of their magic, and their bodies and creating and world full of peace; of hope. True, this could not be attained without Caduan, and where he was, Aefe could be found, but I would have enjoyed it more if she were eliminated earlier. Maybe Caduan makes the same decision at the end, but in her honor and not by her side.
Overall this was an amazing fantasy series; one that I would absolutely recommend. The sheer size of the series is intimating, but I feel like it is an excellent series for new fantasy readers. At the base of the books is magic, revenge and redemption, all woven together through the timeless motto that love truly conquers all.

This series was full of surprises to me - I loved the twist and turns the story took. The Author absolutely aimed for the moon, this story has layers including slavery/poverty, political rivals and instability - not to mention the Fey!!! I couldn't believe these were indie published and not trad. I have really enjoyed both this series and the Crowns of Nyaxia, will definitely be chomping at the bit for her next book.
To me the most unique part of this series was Reshaye/Aefe - her entire story was such ride. I loved the way her character was introduced and how her storyline progressed. I just really enjoyed how it all came together, definitely recommend this series and all else by Carissa!
