Bianca’s parents assume new teaching positions at Evernight Academy, forcing her to leave everything familiar behind. Despite there persistence that she needs to give Evernight a chance, Bianca can’t help but feel like she doesn’t belong. Until she meets another loner, Lucas.
Bianca feels like she can tolerate Evernight with Lucas at her side. Bianca unknowingly reveals her true self to Lucas, ultimately revealing the mystery behind Evernight. Not only is Evernight an academic academy it is also a haven for vampires.

But Bianca isn’t the only one keeping secrets. Once Bianca discovers the true intentions of Lucas’s presence at Evernight, she feels more than betrayed. Will their bond be able to stand against the forces that threaten to keep them apart.

*For those of you who have read Evernight, and you are questioning who is this Lucas person? I talked to Claudia and Jared was changed to Lucas at the last minute!

I started reading Evernight, and I couldn’t put it down until I was finished! Now I find myself longing for the sequel! Evernight will be an easy favorite to fans of vampire lore. It’s a fascinating tale of a mysterious academy, forbidden romance, and dark secrets! Gray's writing is refreshing and smooth. The characters are well developed and intriguing. I’m hoping to learn more about the vampire characters and their lives, possibly in the next novel. The small glimpse into Balthazar’s life was more than interesting. The plot, despite the growing number of vampire books and vampire books that are centered around academies, was actually very original. Evernight’s official release is set for May 27, 2008. I recommend that you get a copy for yourself!

I thought I had this novel pegged from the beginning and then BAM, what I thought was true was flipped. I was duly impressed from that moment on and it assist me in overlooking some of the more cliched developments. One quibble would be Bianca's labelling of herself as 'shy' yet that instantly disappears in Lucas' company. I never buy that for an instant in any literature.

You are expected to buy into the love that develops between Lucas and Bianca and I did to a degree, but it was impeded by two aspects - 1) swift falling in love where the basis of adoration isn't really established (typical of YA) and 2) Balthazar. I really like Lucas, he's complex, flawed and the kissing scenes were delightful but I am intrigued by good old Balty. I wanted to see more of him and was disappointed when Bianca didn't give him a chance. What can I say? I am a sucker for those with a bad case of unrequited love (or Pacey Syndrome as I choose to call it.)

It's a fresh take on a genre that is swiftly becoming stale. I loved the concept that Evernight Academy was established to help teen vampires keep up with the technological advancements of society. (Ranulf's adamant conviction that there are spirits trapped in iPods was hilarious). More than anything I respect the fact that Gray has presented a star crossed couple but provided an equally attractive and respected third to their triangle. All characters are well rounded and their actions are understandable. I am waiting on tenterhooks for the release of Stargazer in the next few months.

*Second Read

Dont get me wrong I REALLY LOVE but Bianca seems to spend most of her time feeling sorry for herself. All she seems to do is whine about how she hates evernight, whine how she has to lie to lucas, etc... For god sake woman just get on with your life

I've also read that people seem to hate the fact that Claudia Gray just drops it on you that Bianca is a vampire, everyone in the school is a vampire, etc... I happen to like that. The first time I read this book I thought everyone is really weird but when I read it for the second time I found that Claudia Gray does hint about vampires throught out the first few chapters. E.G. In the weeks leading up to the Autumn Ball Bianca says something like this to Patrice >
* Patrice looking in the mirror *
Biance : You should really eat something your almost invisible.
And when Bianca and Patrice are sneaking out to go to the party and Patrice is
crouched upon our windowsill.

*Third Read

I feel like I enjoyed that more than my second read. I still think Bianca is somewhat shallow but let myself enjoy it for what it is. I appreciate what young, teenage me enjoyed about the story and would still probably rate it a solid 4 stars.

I particularly like the fact that the female character is the supernatural being, as opposed to the mysterious broody male. It made for an interesting take.

i wish i could give this book so much more stars. it really has the biggest place in my heart... its been 11 years now and still every time i come back to it i only get pure joy, complete amazement and intese love out of it. also the twists here, the references and the culture, even the littlest thing about every character being important to the whole, the romance of it all,,,,, is perfect for me. i adore it i do!!!!!

Why are Y/A novels so obsessed with offering two love interests initially, only to make the boring, more macho manly whatever the hell (Lucas), the one the main character really wants? Balthazar is way cooler. Just wish he wasn't named... Balthazar.

The way that the vampire plot is revealed is really stupid. Actually, a lot of the plot points and reveals are extremely ridiculous. There's so much about this book that I would change.

All of this being said, I did read this pretty fast and retained interest in it, so I guess it wasn't too terrible. Overall just mediocre. Might continue with the series but it's unlikely.

This was so stupid. Halfway through the book is when the author decides to tell us that the main character is a vampire.

I was starting to feel bad for her because she was the only one NOT a vampire. Too many flaws with the story line. dumb.

At first i thought this book was going to end up like all those other YA books with star-crossed lovers, boarding school, and vampires. But it didn't completely follow what happens in those plots of other books. And i liked the main twist of story setup. I'm not going to say what it is, but it was nice.

I just could not seem to get into this book. I know, when I don't like the MC, I'm not going to like the book. And I did not like Bianca. She acts like an awkward spoiled princess.

and her need to constantly say "mine" just seems like a scary obsessed stalker. and I just didn't buy the love story - it felt forced and rushed.

and the big reveal I assume I was supposed to be surprised by seemed so obvious early on that it just annoyed me for assuming I didn't already know.

all in all, the story at least had some interest to it, but just not my thing, I guess.
