Book needs some work

First Izzy is not very likable. She is rude, immature and selfish. Couldn't stand her 75% of the book. Next the "hear me that" where does that even come from? But it is in the book so much I got annoyed. Lastly, the cursing... I am not a prude, shoot I retired from the military we curse...but not in every sentence. These 30 somethings sounded like a teenager rebelling with curse words. This book had a lot of potential but digging into the characters was lost on drinking, cursing and drama. Oh and we never find out why Brandon was crazy...what drove him to behave as he did. Also, it would have been nice to see Axel and Izzy show up at June's house and give her a piece of their mind and show her that despite her efforts they found each other. So much could have been done with the plot that I am left disappointed. Not sure if I will read any other books by this author. Glad this one was free.

Amazing. I heard all the hype about it an decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did. Te ony word to describe this book I amazing. And through this one I've already fallen on love with the rest of the corps men.

5 I love an Alpha, Stars!!

This book starts out with a horrible BANG with Isabelle's controlling abusive husband going off his head at her, just for going out for coffee with a friend. That friend is the same one who came back and took her away after she'd been beaten to a pulp.

Six months later and Isabelle/Izzy has set herself up with a new life with her best friend Dee (who is f-ing awesome!!)

As we learn more on Izzy's past, we learn of her first love Axel and the devastating way they'd lost contact and a bitch of a foster mum (Axel's) who had ruined everything. That was 12 years ago, so what happens when they are reunited? Can they get past everything to finally be together?

LOVED this book!! Full of angst, drama, suspense and heat!! I fell hard and fast for Axel and I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.

I gave it a 3.5 rating. A great read. Not going to lie was very frustrating up until the middle/ end because it took them FOREVER to get together and when they did it seemed rush after that. I would sometimes forget that Isabella was 30 because she acted like a teenager at times, and I wanted to say snap out of it and put your women pants on, especially when she basically turned her back on Greg! I mean come on he has been there for you in the darkest moment in your life and you throw a hissy fit because he was man enough to know what she needed! That is what made Izzy one of my least favorite females lead. At the same time she had a tough life so I guess certain actions were okay. Now Axel! What a man! He made the book in my opinion. At least with his anger he still wanted to talk it out but Isabella kept on running and in all honesty the book would of been way better if it focus on them rebuilding and communicating instead of the whole cat and mouse game. All in all a good read.

I only planned to take a peek and it lasted for about 5 hours. Go figure.

Well, I will be honest and just say it: I really didn’t expect the book to be that good. I guess I just thought that this would be yet another story about though strong hero type of guy who “got in” and save the day. And then I read few first chapters and I was mentally blown away. Really!!! Not because I haven’t read similar plot in other books, it was the way how it was described. I really got the feeling that I was in the mind of Isabelle West, and it was not nice. Not in the least. And that is the main reason why I found this book – good.

For me good writer is one who can, with its writing, put you in the character, or in the particular scene. And during reading this book I did get transferred couple of times in Izzy’s skin. I could hear her thoughts like they were my own, I could feel her pain, and I could understand where she is coming from (mentally)…

Butttttt (yep, there is “big but” ;)) – the writing and the job of transferring reader in character’s mind was done in such a good way that, on the other hand, more than couple of times during reading I was seriously pist of at Izzy. As pist of in a way that Izzy character started to get on my nerves that I wanna to bitch slap her. Hard. And, also, to yell. And maybe to send her to AA meetings...

Axel, kinda, didn’t get my green light as a positive (good) character until second part of the book. Yeah, he is smoking hot, he is ex-military, Special Forces or whatever, and he has all that dark and dangerous charisma around himself, but my first thought was “what a pompous ass”. I get that he was in “the dark” (like Izzy) about what did really happen, but give me (or woman – meanin’ Izzy) a break. The dude hasn’t seen “the love of his life” for years and the first thing she does seeing him – faints – and he still acts as Neanderthal making scene and demanding who knows what. At that point I was seriously in the mood to knock him down. Especially, as the rest of supporting characters, who are mostly badass alpha males (part of Axel security team) have been described as a perfect and sweet guys (Greg!!!) and dark and mysterious (Maddox!!!). And lucky for him that in second part of the book he did a major 180 turn.

Anyway, the main reason why I was in the good mood after reading Axel because this is one of those “a second chance love story” which are one of my favorites. Or “love conquers all”, or “it’s never too late for true love”... And I will not forget to mention smoking hot descriptions of sex scenes. Correction. Smoking hot Axel’s “pillow talk” while having smoking hot sex (those did me some serious turn on ;)).

But, the main reason why I’m giving four stars for Axel is because this is Sloan’s DEBUT novel. And it is unbelievable good. Lookin’ forward for next ones in the series. And there will be many next ones giving the descriptions of Axel’s colleagues of arms which have been perfectly introduced in this book.

I liked this book and am hooked on the series for sure, but to be honest, I hate when men are all Cro-Magnon when they speak. Me Tarzan You Jane does nothing for me. And I love swearing as much as the next girl, but come on, it doesn't have to be every other word. I get it, you're all badass.

I liked the storyline. The long lost, but never forgotten love, the heartache and misunderstandings, but it got to a point in the book where I just wish they'd stop scowling and swearing at each other and just TALK. Plus, come on friends, maybe clue them in a bit on their misunderstanding?? Seems unfair to let your friends suffer when you know both sides doesn't it?

I do like the friendships and Greg is so sweet, I couldn't wait to get to his story...

I feel like I've read this one before but I haven't. the last 20% was almost identical to something I've read before. I'm not sure how I feel about this one.

DID NOT FINISH: 65%

I hate miscommunication and/or lack of communication as a plot point.
if she would have just told him or literally anyone else involved "your foster mom told me you were dead", everything could have been solved sooner. Instead she ignores that little tidbit and gets hung up on the fact that he couldn't find her despite her admittedly failed attempts to get in contact with him, and basically blasts her 'if he wanted to, he would've' attitude. I am not here for the toxic masculinity, possessiveness, and raging. Feels like she's going from one abuser (absolutely the worst human ever) to another who we're supposed to like and overlook his toxic behavior, because he is a hero type and rescues her, even though it is some of the same red flags that were noted from the ex husband's relationship.

Writing was also meh. Lot of phrase repetition, confusing dialogue, and weird friend dynamics and conversation topics that are introduced so suddenly and randomly to move along the plot.
