Man, that was good. Normally I wouldn't be all over a book that uses a fundamentalist church as a central plot point, but somehow I was hooked. Excellent suspense with well-developed characters, complex motivations, and intricate plotting with plenty of twists (including one giant one at the end that I didn't see coming in a million years). This is character-driven domestic suspense the way it's supposed to be. My only complaint was that the Australian author used a lot of Australian English in the mouths of American characters; as I read an advanced copy, I'm really hoping this was fixed pre-publication. Otherwise, awesome. Can't wait for White's next book!

I found this so intriguing. From the beginning I was hooked and there were many twists and turns. The book was really well written and easy to follow, kept me invested the entire time and gave me an ending I didn’t figure out until right at the end when it was all playing out. Love that this is by an Aussie author also. Highly recommended.
Maravilloso thriller.

a kidnapped child, a mystery, an aus in the us, secrets revealed. the premise of this book is one familiar to anyone who has read or watched thrillers… but Christian White adds just enough of his unique tone that it feels fresh and new.
the characters feel real and believable. you root for almost everyone at different times, which is a real testament to his ability to write a wide variety of characters with different background and motivations but keep them rooted in reality.
incredible that this was his debut!

A great page turner with an interesting mystery. Layered and complex. Not at all your average child disappearance book. I liked the fact that no one is perfect, but one forms favorites. There are parts that are very hard to listen to, (unusual form of horrible) because unlike a paper book, you can’t just skip when you listen to the audiobook.

This was an interesting take on a child abduction story. It started with a woman who never had any reason to think her parents weren't who they said they were; then she suddenly is faced with that prospect when a man from the Kentucky comes to work in Melbourne, Australia saying he thinks he is her brother. The storyline shifts between present day as she travels to the US to unearth the truth and the past about the abduction. The shifts in storyline were well-done, and I found the story compelling. There is a mystery to be solved, and subjects you don't find often in books such as a snake-handling church. White presented the difficulty of how to look for the truth while trying not to upset the apple cart with the current family and made me think how difficult that would be. The book really picked up steam toward the end of the book as all the pieces fell into place. This book was a well-written debut.
