This was an enjoyable read and had quite a surprising ending. The chemistry between the two main characters was really good. Their relationship didn't feel fake to me. I also loved that there was some kind of mystery throughout the entire book. There were times that the book felt rushed and cliché, but it didn't take the route most teacher/student romances do, which I really liked and actually felt surprised by.
SpoilerThe fact that they don't get caught, he doesn't go to jail or lose his job and that they live happily ever after. It felt refreshing.
The story felt a bit too dramatic at times and so the main character's choices sometimes didn't make sense. But I still enjoyed it nonetheless and loved the way it ended.

books that make me confused about my own feelings on them are my least favorite kind

First,I would like to thank Ms. Leah Raeder for a signed copy of this book and I would like to praise her for how beautifully she wrote this book. Thank you also to Camille for making it happen. It's definitely worth reading this.

Unteachable is about a student-teacher relationship. It took me a while to read this but that doesn't mean I got bored on the story.

Seriously, I love everything about it. Sometimes Maise O'Malley gets on my nerves for being so whiny. She's a girl who lived in a miserable family where she's looking for a parental image. It makes my heart wrenched that someone like her have to endure all these pain at a very young age. She just didn't deserve a drunk mother. Despite of that, she is the strongest character in this book. Her angst and passion prevails which made me love her.

As for Evan Wilke, he is HOT,compassionate and sweet. Gosh. I love this guy. Nothing gets in his way when he found Maise. He will do everything to make her happy and love her with all his heart. I can't help this giddy feeling!

“You can call it love or you can call it free fall. They’re pretty much the same thing”

- Probably the best quote that describes to what I feel about this book. I fell in love with the characters and how it was written... Everything!

The last part of this book made me say:
"YES! HELL DAMN YES!"

You know that feeling when you thought it's a bad ending and surprised that it wasn't? I love that kind of twist that will make you dance from happiness. Seriously, it was a freefall ending.

and as I am browsing... I saw this poem "Teach Me" by Michael Faudet which reminded me of this book.

Definitely recommended if you love reading New Adult books. Kudos to Leah Raeder!

This book was exactly what I expected a classic teacher/student romance with loads of background drama and problems.
Maisie is eighteen, her mother is a drug addict and her father has left. She sleeps with a lot of older men and isn't good with relationships, runs away when she gets close to people. She meets a man at a carnival, it's a spark instant in the roller coaster. They have sex and it was ngl really sweetly described, he payed all the attention to her, making sure she was okay etc. Maisie had never been treated like that before and ran away scared.
In her film studies class she meets her teacher who is Evan. Things become real intense really fast, they still see each other, go to motels until Evan eventually rents a loft for them to be together.
Wesley is Maisie's best friend, he is funny, typically good looking and has a crush on her. It's rather creepy ngl he takes a lot of pictures of her and videos her. Wesley eventually kisses her, it freaks her out especially as he knew she was seeing someone. She ultimately forgives him. He introduced her to his family where she meets his mother. His mother knows about her and Evan as she saw how they interacted with each other. She tells Maisie her story about dating her teacher and how it went all wrong.
Things become really intense Evan gets Maisie a ring, he tells her he loves her. Everything was going well. Until they got a bit carried away and had sex in a classroom, a student basically knew.
Their final film projects get shown, Maisie's brilliant showing her time with Evan without faces the story of falling in love, from the carnival, dates and time alone. She gets an A.
Wesley's film is about an obsession, Maisie's obsession with Evan. Wesley thought he was doing the right thing protecting her by showing her what he was doing to her. But instead he basically outed their relationship to the entire class. Maisie falls out with Wesley. Evan leaves school to teach elsewhere.
A student began blackmailing Maisie and wanted her to get drugs for her. She becomes a dealer, she makes money, clears her moms debt and find enough money to give her the option to go to a rehabilitation centre. She goes.
Maisie eventually forgives Wesley and idk if I could have. That was such a personal thing and he just outed their relationship like it was nothing. He didn't think about the consequences he just did it. But she forgives him. Wesley knew it was Evan from the start he saw her at the carnival and filmed her. Now Evan on the first day of class said that you can't film people without permission. And he did? I just think that was very creepy. nOPE. bYE Wesley.
Maisie got accepted into several colleges and chose to go to LA with Wesley.
Evan has a past we find out his name is Eric but he does legally change it to Evan. A student who was 17 at the time flirted with him, came onto him because of the thrill. Because a student teacher relationship is forbidden. Things went a little too far they slept together, she got pregnant and had a miscarriage. He moved to get away from all those things.
Maisie thought she was just another young girl, another student like her. Like she wasn't special at all. But she was. Evan proves this to her and gets on that plane to go and be with her in LA. I love how we come full circle how he said Aren't you brave sitting up front, just like he did when they sat on the roller coaster. It ended really well.
The only thing I didn't really like was the amount of sex scenes, yeah a few great, but I wasn't even halfway through and their were loads. Some good, some repetitive.
Some lines made me cringe, it was a little cheesy some things a bit dodgy. But I took this book as something that wasn't serious, a fun read that I knew wasn't going to change my life. I enjoyed it.

I felt like this book was decent for being in the "new adult" genre. The writing was really lovely and the heroine, despite my problems with her, was generally likeable. However it didn't totally suck me in and I had issues with the love interest. He wasn't exactly a jerk in the same way other new adult love interests are but I still sort of saw him as lying and manipulative.

One word : rollercoaster.

The ending made me cry a little I won't even lie!

LOVED the writing prose. soooooooooo much.
Didn't really care for the characters /that/ much, sadly. Maise's narrative is pretty enjoyable tho.

Woah. This book is super dark and gritty, and was almost difficult to read at times. Don’t get me wrong, it’s really, really good, but man- my heart absolutely broke for Maise on more than one occasion in this book.

There’s something very immediate and raw about the writing that drew me right in, but the romance is so taboo and written so descriptively that I couldn’t help but feel like I was viewing something super personal- something I wasn’t mean to see. The forbidden aspect of the student-teacher romance is definitely played up here, to a tremendously unsettling effect.

What I loved most about this book is that Maise isn’t an innocent bystander in this romance. She doesn’t fall for the teacher in a submissive way. In fact, the power dynamics of the student-teacher romance are completely flipped around, with Maise being the aggressor. It’s an incredibly interesting twist to have her know exactly what she wants, even if it comes from a really messed up place. I waffled between thinking that she was being taken advantage of because she has a truly horrible home life and needs the attention and thinking that she was just an incredibly strong character who saw what she wanted and went right after it. Maise had to grow up real fast with her background, so it’s not implausible for her to be mature far beyond her years.

The romance itself is sexy as can be and not for the faint of heart, but it’s an interesting dynamic with compelling characters who both have a lot to lose. This book is New Adult like I’ve never seen it before.
