I have mixed feelings. I definitely do not think this promoted a healthy relationship, but it's not like I expected any different. SUper wild though

NOTE: Almost DNF.

I've never been a fan about student teacher relationship books.
And considering this one had such a big age gap it made me feel a little queasy. I tarted the book about 2 months ago then stopped and then picked it up again today just to finish it and find out what all the hype about it was because its got such a high score on GR.
It wasn't for me. Really good writing but I just felt like it could of been explained much more and had more scenes around the love between the main characters.

I think Unteachable is a new favorite.....

Okay, so I have this habit/addiction that whenever I read a bunch of really good reviews for a book I'm interested in, I have to buy it. Like, no control, I need that book immediately. Unteachable is a great example of this.

The relationship between Maise and Evan is so unlike any other teacher-student romance, I was completely thrown while reading it. It's realistic, it's rough, and it's so heartbreaking. Maise is so screwed up, but I found myself relating to her in so many ways. That internal feeling of maturity and intelligence over all my high school peers, while not the most positive outlook, is so relatable.

Maise and Evan, are the kind of couple I expected to root for until the end (even though they're teacher and student), kind of like Ezra and Aria. And I did, until I came to the same realizations as Maise. Somehow, though, it made me love the book even more, it was refreshing that they were imperfect and they weren't meant to be.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can see myself reading it again. I recommend this to anyone interested in forbidden romance-type stories!

DID NOT FINISH

I started reading this book because of the student/teacher trope. I was sad to find out that this was not done tastefully (in my opinion). I know there is a fine line for this type of trope and everyone has their own opinions about dating ages, but I found it disturbing that she was 18 and in high school. The book made the class sound like it was a college class but kept referencing her being in high school. I also thought she was very immature, which can be expected from an 18-year old, but in this story where the plot is she is dating a teacher, I found it disturbing. Overall, I had to stop reading the book because their relationship just made me uncomfortable and was very toxic. Feel free to read it, but it just was not for me.

I never would have thought I'd like a book about a student-teacher relationship. There's just this ick-factor.

However, I was immediately on board from just the first couple of pages. I think what sold me was how self aware Maise was. There was a perfect balance of angst, humor and romance.

“Thanks, Dad, for leaving a huge void in my life that Freud says has to be filled with dick.”

Normally I would have been turned off from the melodrama of the romance and the predictable backstory.

Girl falls in love with her film professor, her bitchy classmate blackmails her for drugs and her druggie mom's involved in the mafia as well, against all odds she ends up with her true love, living happily ever after.

So cheesy, right?

The writing is what saves it. Maisie, 18, and her 30-something film professor are having an affair, but from the very beginning, they realize it's a lot more than that.

I also liked that there was a lot more about friendship and aspirations to grow up and make something of herself, and the romance was not the only focus of the book. That's always a major turn-off for me.

4 stars only because I thought the plot could have done with a little more work, it was a bit soap opera-y.

This was an ok book. I remember loving the hero, but I can't remember much later it's been a year since I'm writing this review. But it was an ok read for me.

This is everything I was expecting. I appreciate the storyline, the characters-- except the drama and the other one.
