This book is composed of :

- 45% of sex

This is the story of the relationship between a teacher and his student so obviously they weren't going to look at each other in the eye, duh. Maise is a teenager used to sleep with older men, that's fine by me but what I didn't like was the fact that she constantly justifies her behaviour because of her "dad issues".

There are a lot and I mean a lot of sexy passages in this book, if you're not comfortable with that you should pass.

I think there is a sexy scene in almost every chapter (yeah, they're passionate). No, seriously passion is something very important in this book. They're drawn to each other almost against their will. Maybe a little too much, they were so involved with each other that I didn't feel really connected to any of them, it's like when you meet a couple and you're left out. Even though it's told in the first person, the distance remains.

Evan (the teacher) isn't memorable, just another male interest I'm probably going to forget in a month. He has nothing special, actually I found him even dull some times. I wanted more scenes with him as a teacher, I wanted dialogues making me smile and excited but nop, that's not what I got.

- 30% of love

I know what you're going to say : "There is less love than sex ? Really ?" well yes really. Saying I love you is always a big step in american shows/books/movies. It's not such a big deal in France, we just say it without thinking too much about it (at least in my experience) but anyway that's not the point.

What I'm trying to say is the story follows a girl afraid of commitment, wary most of the time because of her past, loving someone puts her out of her comfort zone and it made me curious to see how she was going to handle it. Unfortunately, she isn't as complex as I wanted her to be. I expected a real struggle but this issue got dealt with too easily in my opinion.

- 10% of friendship and family time

Their relationship being the center of the story, this doesn't leave much room to anything else. We can give credit to the author to show how passion consumate them. Nothing else matters.

I loved Weasley (and I think you will too), he's refreshing and he is the complete opposite of the teacher : Young, still innocent and immature but I liked him more than Evan.

- 10% of secrets

I can't say a lot about that. No mystery would've been boring, right ? I wish it was more exploited. A lot of things in this book could've been pushed further but I enjoyed the fact that there weren't too much drama. This book shines with its simplicity, I was engrossed in it, eager to see how this ends.

- 5% of Film Studies

He's a teacher so he's supposed to teach something, right ? A movie can be seen differently by two different person and so are people. I won't say too much about that.

Put together, the story becomes sexy and addictive . I would be lying if I'd say that's the best contemporary I've read. The plot is nothing extraordinary, the characters are okay but it was a quick, fun read, great to kill time.

Reading this book was a true free fall. All the feels. Every single feeling and emotion. I was overwhelmed. It was exhilarating. I loved this so much. And I hated how it ended. I wanted so much more. These characters had so much more to give. I had this battle on the inside. I wanted this book to go on, but yet I liked dealing with the unknown. I had a million thoughts when it came to them. Ughhhhh.

"I can't hold on to you. You're like that shooting star. Just a trail of fire in my hands."

Did I love Maise? Maybe.
Did I hate Maide? Maybe.
She had her moments. She was a frustrating character. She is cynical and she is lost. She is just a kid after all, but with an old soul. She was larger than life. She took over your senses and overwhelmed you. I felt her vibe through the pages. She was wild. She couldn't be tamed. She didn't want to be tamed. She just wanted to be loved. I wanted to delve more into her mind. She is one of the most interesting characters I have ever read about and I loved that. The author created one hell of a complicated character yet so simple.

This is what being in love feels like, Wesley. Gratitude. Gratitude that you exist in this f**ked up, beautiful universe.

I didn't trust Evan. He felt wrong all over. He felt off. Through out the book I just couldn't stomach him. Up until the book ended and still I don't what to make of him. But he didn't feel that comfortable. I didn't love him and I thought Maise deserved more. I wanted her to open up her heart and feel it all, I felt that Evan just gave her the first push which she really did need it.

Loved Wesley a lot. He interesting. I need a book dealing with him. He felt exciting and with these thoughts that needed to be expelled so badly. I loved how his relation with Maise developed.

Do I imagine Evan and Maise on the long run? Not at all. They didn't click.

Still, I loved the book more than anything. I enjoyed it so much. The words were written perfectly. I felt like reading a poem. It was beautiful and classy yet wild and everywhere. It was a beautiful mess. This author knows the way with words. I loved all the descriptions. They were on point. I want to read more.

The world is new when I’m with you.” I took his hands in mine. “And I’ve seen you, I’ve seen how you light up when you’re with me. It’s the same for you. We’re both kids with each other, and this world is made just for us. So that can’t be your reason for saying no.”

Meant to be or not. Maise and Evan crossed paths. Is it falling in love or a free fall? I guess it makes no difference. But they are hopeless case. They never learn. Both are unteachable.

I loved this.

I read this book after being in this weird teacher-student mood and this has been one of my favorite teacher student read this year.

Hello my name is Rita and I am a chocoholic. If I were presented with a family sized block of chocolate, I would devour it, no guilt.

Unteachable is a family sized block of chocolate.

I picked this up on a whim. The only thing I knew about this story was the classic girl and teacher hook up. I had no idea what else came with this package.

It was so much more. It was delicious, heartbreaking and addictive.

Just like chocolate :)

I read this book after so many reviewers said how much better it was than "Even When You Lie to Me" (which I thoroughly enjoyed). This book was well-written, had an engaging plot, and interesting characters BUT I'm just gonna put it out there: it's 80-90% smut.
I don't actually understand the severe hatred of Even When You Lie to Me, while they laud this book. They are two totally separate approaches to a similar topic. This book took the unbelievable sex-romp-love-story angle (the other was a darker coming-of-age, naive, spoiled-girl-needing-to-grow-up tale).
I liked this book. I didn't love it. I don't think I'll be re-reading it, I liked it. If you want to enjoy a twisty-turvy student/teacher relationship book (with lots of smut), read this. If not, move along.

Overall for me what made this book enjoyable was the writing, it was quite well-written, maturely and lyrically. I liked Miase, how she was mature but with a mixture of still being a kid. She was wise beyond her years with a bit of humor mixed in and ultimately I found her to be a very believable character. Unfortunately, she was obsessed with Evan. Now Evan I was never really sold on, I found him sketchy to be honest (especially considering
he was with another HS student as a teacher prior.
Can you say giant flashing red lights?!). Ultimately this is the reason I was not really satisfied with the ending nor found it believable. And despite many protestations by the characters, the relationship really seemed based on sex...it was pretty much constant. We would get random comments about talking for hours but what we saw? The sex.

What I didn't like about this:
1. Maise was arrogant and full of herself. She was completely up herself, constantly pointing out how beautiful she was.
2. Evan's secret. The fact that he'd had an affair with a student before and that he blamed the student for pursuing him. The way he talked about the whole thing was shitty. I'd liked him somewhat until that point but then I thought he was terrible. It was like "Oh yeah, my name is really Eric. I had to change my name because I knocked up a 17 year old student who pursued me and she was nothing like you. I didn't even like her. Blech."
3. The relationship. So Maise and "Evan" meet on a rollercoaster ride at a fair. They then spend some time together and they have sex after she assures him that she's 21. Then afterwards, she makes an excuse to leave. When she finds out he is her teacher, she's all about it and so is he. He only resists for like a week before he's trying to find ways to bang her. Keeping it classy. They both justify it by saying she's 18 and they met before they knew they were going to be teacher/student. However, they know they have to hide it because it's actually not legal. And they both get off on the fact that it's wrong and also because they are carrying out the student/teacher fantasy.
4. The last 25% of the book. It got awkward fast. Once Evan's past was uncovered, it got weird. They broke up and then Maise tracked Evan down to his new school and they had an awkward period where they were not really together but fucking around. Then they were mostly together and Maise wanted Evan to move to L.A with her and after all they'd been through, Evan was not into it. Kind of like "Oh, you're young. I just want you to be happy so I don't think I should go with you."It was just unnecessary!
5. No feelings. I had no feelings for the characters or their relationship. I didn't care.
6. The flowery writing. Sometimes the writing was okay and other times it was super flowery.
7. Weird side plots. Mother is a drug dealer who owes a lot of money to drug overlord who threatens Maise at some point. Girl in class who is a coke addict and blackmails Maise into dealing her drugs. Wesley is the only friend Maise has and seems cool until he shows his movie in film class and it's all creepy material he's gotten from stalking Maise.

So yeah. It wasn't great for me. It was readable but it had a lot of faults. Lots of people love this book so I'm in the minority, it seems. I'm okay with that. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great.
