I wanted to like it so much more than I did, and I DID like it! This book just filled me with so much anxiety. It jumps into the conflict so quickly and I just absolutely hate Adair and everyone (adult) acts so clueless and just completely allows the children to run everything and have little to no authority or reaction at all. This installment seems rushed and I don’t even know where a next one could go (surely something with Armageddon). It really did exhaust me to read from the get-go! I wanted to put it down and start something else but it was so short, I made myself finish. I’m happy I did, because Myla and Lincoln are super cute, but what a trip.

Was worried the sequel wouldn't live up to the book 1 but it held its own. Fingers crossed the next is just as good.

I don't normally leave 5 stars, so good job author.

This totally just got better!

Seriously. After listening to the last book, this is a great followup. And not just the story. The narrative is so much fun! The author narrates how she wants the story told. The main character is snarky and sarcastic, and I love it. I said it before but I a!m honestly beginning to question why I don't read books like this more often. Really enjoyable and really looking forward to the next book!

Audio book review.

A short follow-up novel to continue the characters on in a cliche trajectory. Our main characters face adversity from Lincoln's ex, the pretty perfect princess who thought she was the Scala heir. I forget her name just now, but she's definitely a character that grates on your nerves. You love to hate her, and the narration captures her irritating spirit perfectly. She goes to extreme lengths to get her life back on track, causing tons of trouble for Myla and her new job moving souls. There's a lot packed into one small book!

I love a book with a strong female lead. I was unable to put the book aside once I started to read it.

Myla has now transformed into the great scala. Trouble is, someone else is after her job, her love, and her life.

The second book in series can make it or break it. If I read one I don't like, there is almost zero chance of counting on with the series. Most often, there are disappointing, not living up to the brilliance of the first one. However, this is not the case. :)

The story picks up almost immediately after the first one. Myla is full blown Scala, except she can't move souls into heaven because ghouls left magical object behind that forbids it. In the desperate rush to find the object before towers, where souls are kept fall off, she enlists the help of Walker and later even Lincoln. On top of that, my least favorite person from the first book is trying to undermine her authority as Scala and slowly stealing her powers.

In the face of all the adversity, Myla doesn't let troubles break her. Those are my favorite part to read, in both books. Instead of wallowing, she makes a plan and takes action. It wouldn't be Angelbound book without some ass-kicking. She doesn't let anyone boss her around and I love that about her.

I loved seeing more of Myla and Lincoln, they are amazing book couple. In many ways, I loved Angelbound a bit more than Scala. I'm sucked for origin stories. :) it's a good sequel that promises more amazingness to come and gets me excited for the next one.

I really liked Scala. I loved getting to see a little beyond Purgatory, it was nice to get a peek at one of the other realms. I also liked the character progression. While I will say that I missed the spitfire, punch now ask questions later Myla, I could appreciate that with great power comes great responsibility. Now that she was The Great Scala she had a lot of responsibility and that can make a person want to make some more thought out decisions. I thought that was realistic, and I liked to see that Myla was just as capable with her forethought as she was with asskicking. I liked the more mature, chess like political/royal court games that were at play here, and seeing Myla excel at them after time. But not so much that she wasn't true to herself. I might have gave a congratulatory fist pump in the air when she gave the King a good tongue lashing.

I wish that this book was a little longer than it was. I was really hoping to see more of this fantastic world. I will say that I was slightly disappointed with the romance factor here. Bauer was so bold in Angelbound, for YA anyways, and I felt like she played it safe in Scala. I wanted a little of that passion that was so dominant in the first book. And where she pulled back in that aspect she jumped way ahead in the whole marriage talk. At least that's how I felt anyway.

This was still a great addition in the Angelbound series and I am really anxious and excited to see where it goes from here. I really do hope that the next book is a little longer than this one, and I would absolutely love seeing even more realms come into play.
