Well...I just finished extinction point and can't wait for the next installment! I don't normally get creeped out by typical sci-fi books, however the way in which the setting was described, especially in Emily's apartment made me get a case of full blown sweaty palms! I live in a apartment block so you can imagine the fear I now face when the lift doors bing open!
Really good apocalyptic story, the first of three probably four according to the author.

This was pleasant, if short, and very readable. I applaud the author for trying something different with the post apocalyptic genre - here we have an alien red rain that basically decimates every living creature it touches and then turns them into bizarre creatures. It's an interesting take on the zombie genre, which even to a huge zombie fan like me, has gotten bit tired. In fact I'd go so far to say that this was less zombie and more body horror , which I adore I would say even *more* than zombies!
In this sense I would compare it to [b:White Horse|12173462|White Horse|Alex Adams|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1326018441s/12173462.jpg|17144967] by Alex Adams - both were post apocalyptic books which had a strangely immune protagonist trapped in a nightmarish world where the people around them are constantly changing - however I think White Horse worked better than Extinction Point just because the former was much more polished than the latter - for example, early on in the book we get "Glancing through the large storefront window into the interior, she could see the place was deserted. She had her pick of tables to set up her computer and spread out her notes, leaving enough room to eat her sandwich."
Three paragraphs later, Jones starts the paragraph with "The cafe was deserted, the lunchtime rush still an hour away, so she had her pick of tables". This kind of sloppy repetition happens a few times in the book - but it's nothing that a good editor wouldn't fix.
I do question the choice to have the protagonist. Whut??? That would take for-fucking-ever, and speaking as someone who lives near the Rockies, it would be cold as fuck and really grueling. Why the hell wouldn't you just take a car? I mean, it's not like you're going to get a ticket for driving without a license!
All in all, I'll read the next in the series, because despite some minor quibbles, I think it was original and had a great premise.

The writing is lacking in skill but the story is great. I'll probably grab the next book in this series.

I didnt hate this book, but I didnt really love it enough that i can't wait for book 2. (book 2 and 3 are out)
The concept was great, the book could have been great. The level of detail is what kept me from loving the book. I found myself scanning the book rather than reading it, skipping whole pages as a single scene or situation would often be described in 3-4 pages.
When there was an action scene, like the fight with the alien creatures at the end, the scene was gripping and made me want to continue reading it. There just wasnt enough action.
I will go read reviews on books 2 and 3 to see if it gets better because i have not written this series off. There was enough here to consider moving forward.

I’ve read worse. The details were just so tedious and thought process seemed unrealistic to me, and the main character was very annoying to me because of this.
I did enjoy the unique take on alien invasion. That’s the only reason why I rated it as high as I did.

Yet another end of the world, end of humanity scenario. I've listened to a lot of these on Audible in the last few months. Seems like their daily deal is full of them.
Still, as far as they go, this one is just as good as the others. And I liked the narrator/performer. For those that care, she is very good in windy/noisy conditions, in addition to performing the story very well.
For whatever reason, this performance/story/character combination grabbed me a little. I'm even interested in listening to the next book in the series.
