I made the mistake of starting this book on my Kindle app on my phone at work. Holy shit! I couldn't stop reading! Even when I should have been working! I'm not yet finished, but I am devouring this book. I am loving the horror aspect; the gritty, grimy, gooshy, bloody details. I hope it doesn't let me down. (And I peeked ahead a bit and found out there's a dog involved later. I reallyreally hope nothing bad happens to the doggy.)

Finished today (10-19) and I loved every word of it. I read the entire thing during breaks/lunches at work and it warped my mind during the shift. I was right there with her from beginning to end. I'm excited for the next book and can't wait to read about her journey that lies ahead. If I remember correctly, the entire book spanned seven days, well, those were long days in the best way. I can't wait to find out how changes will further progress to the planet. And I love the dog. please Mr. Jones, don't pull a Stephen King (whom I love) and kill the dog.

Interesting subject matter but the writing was painful. The author has never heard of 'showing not telling' and there is way too much description of actions in the book.

I don't understand...How so many people can give this 4 or 5 stars.
Yes there were some good moments. There was some okay action. I loved the premise, the red rain, the aliens/creatures.
But it was slow. So so so slow. And unnecessary.
She wanders around, doesn't really seem too upset about like EVERYONE being dead...her boyfriend dying in front of her.
She tries so hard to convince you that she absolutely can't drive a car. Seriously, she never needed to. She rides her bike and takes the subway and stuff. She lived in a small town before. Okay, I don't have my license but I still am capable of driving a car. Especially if no one else is driving because everyone is dead. You have to be a complete idiot to not even know how a car works. One pedal is gas, the other is brake, the round thing goes around so you can change directions.
So she gets a new bike and packs up a ridiculous amount of supplies. And she would like you to know exactly every item and how many of that item and how much it weighs and where she packs it in relation to the other things and why she picked that particular spot to put it in....uggghhh.
Eventually she makes it out of the city and into the suburbs. And that's it. That's as far as the book gets.
From other reviews I've concluded that she continues in this fashion throughout the second book. The pace does not pick up, the minutiae continues and pretty much nothing happens again. I will not be continuing this series.
Maybe if it was ever rewritten so all the fluff was taken out and just the "story" remained (probably condensing the series to one book) then I might give it a shot. Even then IDK because Emily was not very relatable.

I actually really enjoyed this book - yet another freebie downloaded from Pixel of Ink. And yes...another end of the world/apocalyptic-type book...but different from the others I've read. Definitely no zombies this time...but there are certainly some alien lifeforms adding a little excitement to the story! I love the main character (pretty much the only character once nearly the entire human population is wiped out. She's not perfect, she's not some tough bitch ready to kick some serious ass... she's just a newspaper reporter that was somehow spared when the rest of the population of the world was pretty much wiped out in less than 24 hours. That said...I'm not sure most people wouldn't have immediately given up in a position such as hers. How lonely would that be to realize that you are pretty much the only person left...at least in NYC. She does eventually make contact with a small group of scientists...thousands of miles away that she decides to trek toward.

This book was the first in a series...the second was to have been realized this past summer. however, when I went to search it out (almost immediately after finishing the first), discovered that the release has been pushed back to sometime next year as the author had been picked up by a publishing company that is apparently an offshoot of Amazon. Good for him! But darnit...I was ready to begin the second book in the series as soon as I finished the first!

3.5 stars!

I wanted to try something different and [b:Extinction Point|13509631|Extinction Point (Extinction Point, #1)|Paul Antony Jones|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1331004745l/13509631._SX50_.jpg|19062478] was surprisingly good and had me hooked from the first page. My only issue with it is the mystery went on for far too long and by the end, nothing was explained or revealed. It was annoying not to get answers to the question of what is the red mist? And what are those creatures?

The first half of the book was a solid 4 stars but the second half was 2 to 3 stars. The ending felt like we were still in the middle of the book with very little progress. The author really wanted to stretch this one out to fit several books and I kind of lost interest in the mystery at the end.

Still not sure how I feel about this book. Two things really bother me. First, why would she bike the whole way to Alaska. She could easily teach herself to drive with no other drivers on the roads to worry about. Second, she is a reporter but is not documenting anything. She should have taken some pictures and wrote down what she was experiencing for future generations. Other than that not a horrible book but not the best I have ever read.

After reading a glowing review of this book from a GoodReads friend and finding that it was available for a mere $2.99 on Kindle, I had to snatch it up. Then, on a sleepless night when I was sick of the never-ending book I was reading, I decided to give this one a try. Oh, sweet popcorn! I was soon devouring this book with eyes flying over the pages at record speeds.

Reports of red rain come to New York from Europe shortly before all contact with Europe ceases. So when red rain begins to fall in New York, everyone either panics or goes home to be with loved ones. After the rains, Emily cannot seem to find signs of anyone alive in New York. Even the internet seems to show no signs of life anywhere. Is she the only person left alive? And why did the residue of the rain seem to show signs of intelligence? Was this a terrestrial biological attack or could it have perhaps come from an extraterrestrial source?

This book excelled spectacularly as a horror read. I paused from my reading last night while at my favorite coffee shop, went to the restroom, and was startled by a misplaced garbage can. I also found myself double-checking the restroom ceiling. What was I looking for? I'll not give away anything except to say that I definitely was NOT looking for zombies.

With many questions left still unanswered at the end of the book, I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel coming in the summer of 2012. This one gets 4.5 stars from me.
