This was the 1st book I have read of this series and after finishing the book I feel that it would be best to read the whole series from start to finish because the book was good and satisfying but there were lots of details I could tell I was missing on other side characters and the mystery behind Vance's dads wishes. I loved Darren's character but wish he had more of a backbone with his mother, she was really awful. Overall a great read and I could tell this was the conclusion to a series that had been building up.

Oh my!

I don’t know where to begin. So many surprises and twists that I never would have expected. There’s so much more to Vance than what we’ve seen in previous books. It’s enjoyable to watch him and Dare navigate the “relationship” they both claimed they didn’t want.

Burgoa is a master at the angsty relationships.

Yours to Keep is the sixth book in The Baker’s Creek Billionaire Brothers series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Vance Aldridge was in the military, and after he left, he decided to work for a different military-affiliated organization. But it turns out, they weren’t a “good” organization, and he ended up having to make a hard choice.

Darren “Dare” Russell is a neurosurgeon, and he goes to Baker’s Creek when his friend, Hayes Aldridge asks him to come and help at his new hospital. His family, namely his mother and sisters, are deeply invested in his dating life and want him to date someone, but he doesn’t want a relationship.

When Vance and Dare meet, there’s instant attraction, but neither wants to give in to it. Similarly, neither wants a relationship because of things in their past. They’re opposites: Vance is quiet and keeps to himself, Dare is friendly, outgoing, and very flirty.

This was my first solely MM novel, and it was okay. While this can be read as a standalone, you really miss a LOT if you don’t read the previous books. It wasn’t as noticeable to me in the previous books, but I think since this was the last one, everything was hinted at again.

Anyway, I really didn’t see the connection between Vance and Dare. It seemed like they just went from pretending they didn’t want each other to hooking up (but they didn’t really hook up) to love. I mean, Vance seemed to just suddenly love Dare, but there wasn’t really a development to their relationship.

That being said, this was still a great story. I liked how everything finally came together. And Dare and Vance both fell hard for each other when they finally opened up.

They both did a great job bringing their respective characters to life.

This is the latest and final book in this series, and while it can technically be read as a standalone, because of the number of characters and overreaching story arc, I would strongly recommend reading them in order. I have looked forward to Vance's story and perhaps I built it up too much in my mind but it felt a bit flat for me. Initially the signs were good. There was a nice build up between Vance and Darren and things were looking good as their story progressed, but the chemistry between them always felt a bit forced. As a conclusion to the series, it felt a bit rushed into the final stages of this book. Perhaps it would have been better to have this book longer and allow all elements to just play out a bit easier.

Oh how I have wondered who would be enough to break down Vance's walls and if Vance would actually allow himself to open himself up to someone but Dare was not the one I expected but he was absolutely perfect for Vance. I liked how at the beginning we backed up a bit in the ongoing story arc so previous primary stories become the background and set up of Vance and Dare's which was great to relive some of the things from the past couple of books. Not only do we get to see Vance slowly deal with why he is so closed off to everyone and his feelings, but also get to see the real Vance that we only got a glimpse of every now and then. There are plenty of laughs, frustrations, crazy families, loads of feelings and some shocking revelations about the Aldridge patriarch that answers a lot of questions and also leaves you wondering about ....well you have to read it to find out ;)

When I saw that Claudia Burgoa was coming out with another MM I was excited to get my hands on it. It was book 6 in a series of MF books, but I was informed it could stand alone. After reading it I am not so sure about that. I felt very lost in the beginning. Everything was happening so fast, I got a bit confused. I felt I needed more background information going in, especially when it came to WHY Vance and his family had to be in Bakers Creek. I mean I sort of figured it out from putting together context clues, but the author didn't confirm my thoughts until well past midway.

The suspenseful beginning aside, I did like the romance between Dare and Vance. Dare was a fun character. He's obviously brilliant as he is a neurosurgeon, but he is flirty and funny too. I liked that he was quick to smile, while Vance was Mr. Broody. Opposites tend to attract and these two are just that. The only thing they really have in common when they start out is that they both aren't interested in a happily ever after situation with each other.

This all changes when Dare and Vance start spending more and more time together. With a fake relationship to throw Dare's nosey mother and sisters off the scent, it quickly morphs to a FB situation added in. It was kind of hilarious because in my eyes both Dare and Vance were in a committed relationship for months, all while both of them were in complete denial. They had so many excuses why everything was really just "casual" and it was actually surprising how long it took them to figure it out. In fact, there was so much protesting that I felt it was sort of abrupt when the book ended with their HEA.

The mystery aspect side plot was pretty intriguing and I greedily collected the clues until the truth was revealed. There is a lot going on in this book with a romance and a few different sub plots. Again, I do think this book would be better enjoyed having read the rest of the series. I also wish there was more on page steam. There was a lot of flirty teasing going on that I guess I expected a bit more than mostly fade to black.

I’m so glad we finally get to know Vance, he’s so broody, and now we get to know him, I love him.
I love the broodyness of Vance & the flirtatious Darren Russell.
These two were a perfect opposites attract. Both not wanting a relationship while simultaneously finding their way into each others heart.
We get all the answers about why William did what he did, it was a little heartbreaking.
The letters were short, but emotional.

This was terrible. It didn’t work as a standalone, which I learned the hard way but then I was too stubborn to quit. It’s not like I would have read the other books anyway since they’re MF, but honestly it doesn’t seem like I missed anything worthwhile anyway.

So, I didn’t get the story. That’s on me. But that didn’t explain the inconsistencies in the writing and the random change of minds that the MCs kept having. Dare was like “ew, I don’t want him like that” one minute and then in love the next. And not in the fun way. He spent the book being a doormat for his asshole family that I despised, then he suddenly seemed to realize how they’d been treating him at the same time as he “realized” he loved Vance, so everything fell into place at once. Again, not in the fun way.

The ending after was boring with some letters to characters I didn’t know from another character I didn’t know. Also, Dare told Vance his life story only to have Vance be like “umm getting married at 19 was really stupid”. What kind of response is that to a guy telling you about a former heartbreak? Two seconds later Vance was like “marry me”, again, after they had been together for about 2 seconds. Seriously?

The only person I kind of liked was the therapist, Dr. Saunders. He was great with Vance. But, even so, that’s not really what I wanted for a romance.
