According to the blurb on the back of my copy, 'No woman survives seven or eight deaths without a reason.' Unfortunately, amongst the hardships and generational abuse, we never do discover a reason.
Stella represents all women everywhere who have no control over their lives. Surviving seven or eight deaths makes this reality no less true and no less terrible.

I just never felt like anything good was ever going to happen for this poor woman.

I loved so much of this but the ending felt really rushed - from when Stella started having children it was pretty much just lists of them and not much else. I also found the breakdown of her relationship with Tina heartbreaking and couldn't decide if we were meant to believe that Tina was controlling and unkind or Stella was deluded about this.

Overall a great book with wonderful female characters.

Loved this book!

It's difficult to like a book when you don't like the main character. I think most people will love this book because the story is interesting and unique, I've definitely never read a book quite like it before. The 7 or 8 deaths are mostly just used to structure the story and are slipped in to build a timeline more than anything. I found the writing to be very stiff and unemotional. And the last chapter was annoying and lazy, with the author just listing out what happened to each family member in the end. I like books to make me feel something and this was 440 pages of banal statements.

wonderfully written story of family transitioning from Italy to the U.S...the good, bad and ugly (some ugly was REALLY difficult!).

Beautifully written but the title should have cued me in this would not be an easy read.

Thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Sucked me in and I read chunks of it at a sitting.
Reminded me a bit of "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn."

This book! Best thing I’ve read in a while.

First off. Every segment felt like an episode in a show. The emotional turmoil that she dived into was
