Really cute.

What I didn't like
♦ Angeline or whatever her name was - At first, I thought she's a bitch. At the end, I found out that she's a massive bitch
♦ Ryan's mom
♦ Reece - I knew he's an asshole, but
Spoiler trying to rape a girl?
Yeah, that was so not cool.
♦ The writing style - Honestly, it was kind of boring and it took me a lot more to finish the book than it should
♦ Ryan and Danny - I didn't really feel their love. They fell for each other in less than a week and it also gave me YA vibes. Not that YA is a bad thing, but this is supposed to be a NA and they were so... innocent, I don't know

What I liked
☺ Mike - Good friend to have, to be honest
☺ Emily - She intrigued me. I thought she's a total bitch like her mother, but maybe that's not really the case
☺ How Ryan gave up on his mother to keep Danny - Not many guys have the balls to do it

Overall, it was a light read. I liked it, but I didn't love it and I hope this is not the best book [a:Sawyer Bennett|6950682|Sawyer Bennett|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1405426334p2/6950682.jpg] can write. So I'll just give the others a chance, knowing that they have better scores than this one.

Let me start by saying I really do love Sawyer Bennett. She is a pretty versatile writer and some stuff she writes I adore, others are clearly not for me. That doesn't make it a bad book. But this book I really couldn't get behind the instalove. I feel like I would have liked the characters if I had more time to know them or they had more time to know each other. The other chAracters were cliche and added nothing. The plot was mostly unbelievable. I also can not and will not speak for someone who has been abused, but it didn't seem to have much of an impact even just in the immediate day or two following. In all, nothing worked for me. But I finished it
lighthearted relaxing fast-paced

So many of you know that I LOVE reading. I read every single day. But if my nose isn't in a book well then I am watching a hockey game.

And let me tell you, Ryan definitely does it for me :)

Ryan is used to the finer things in life. Growing up in an influential family, Ryan must strive for perfection. He is not only expected to associate with those of the same social class, but he is also expected to date woman of the same caliber.

..But things change when he meets Danny.

Danny is the girl from the wrong side of the tracks. She has purple hair and a piercings and most of all, she does not come from an influential family. Penniless and parent-less, Danny works 2 jobs, goes to school and has put her passion for playing the violin on the back burner. While many people in her predicament would be bitter and unhappy, she is optimistic and so very kind. I immediately connected with Danny. She wears her heart on her sleeve.

From the very beginning, the attraction between Ryan and Danny is off the charts.
"We just look at each other and the minute she glances down at my lips, it's all over."

As their relationship progresses and they start falling in love, they face backlash from Ryan's ex-girlfriend Angeline, his slimeball teammate Reece, and his cold, manipulative mother.

The problems Danny and Ryan face because they are from two different worlds struck a cord with me. On a more personal note, I have had my own fair share of disapproval from own boyfriend's mother. I have had to deal with the scathing looks, horrible words and the pain that follows. To read what Danny and Ryan have to go through to be together helped me to feel less alone in my own situation. As a reader, it is so gratifying to find yourself in the pages of the story your reading.

Ryan is beyond swoon-worthy. He is the perfect mix of strong, and protective, mixed with incredibly sweet and generous. And Danny is beyond selfless, brave and likeable. These two have quickly become one of my favorite couples of the year. They are the perfect example of opposites attracting, and complimenting one another.

If your looking to read a book about two amazing people fighting the odds stacked against them, Off Sides is the book for you. It is incredible sexy, sweet and so very romantic. The characters are extremely well written, the plot is realistic and the feeling of hope resonates long after the pages have turned.

the writing style just wasn't exciting me, and the characters and the plot felt super cliché and superficial

I really wasn't a fan of this book. It seemed as if the main characters had no real faults at all. Sure they each had a mishap in their relationship but they were kind-hearted and/or weirdly added in, and didn't have hardly an impact at all on their relationship. The whole first half came across as sunshine and roses, and everything was playing out beautifully and perfectly to the point that I wanted to puke. It was wholly unrealistic, even when you add in the ending which managed to drop some of it's cotton-candy flavor. The story came across as two 15 year olds meeting and falling in 15 year old love, but in a more collegiate setting. They go on one date and they both are rather apprehensive about each other and their relationship, but continue with their apprehension for a few more dates, despite both having fallen in love with the other after the first date. It was as if their older, mature personalities were trying to break through and be realistic, but the author forced them into a juvenile and unrealistic state of being.
The other big issue I had with the story was that even when the ending did pick up more and have more angst and mature themes (though still not helping the realism of the tale), the author then faltered with the heroine, Danny's, personality. For most of the book, it was consistently known and acknowledged that she is extremely resilient and confident in herself and her relationship and she doesn't have an issue with their class differences. Then all of the sudden two tiny pricks from the hero's mother knock her off her pedestal, even though his ex-girlfriend was way more vicious to her way more times, and she persevered through those comments and came out strong on the other end. It just didn't match up for me, and she had been so intelligent and strong, and then all of the sudden she loses her confidence and can't stand on her own two feet and trust her relationship.

The writing and grammar issues are annoying but the story is sweet. The intimacy is very mild.

This was... something. Not a good something. But it was something.

This was a difficult one for me to get into. I've read more recent Bennett books and I like her writing style but in this case there was a lot of telling and not much showing, especially at the beginning. I felt her writing style was as fluid, and checking the publication date suggests she'd developed a lot since then. The characters were both likeable, the plot straight forward but overall, for me, it was pretty 'meh'.
