this was so unexpectedly good?? had me gripped the whole time, surprisingly plot twisty, strange and complex characters, i’ve never really read anything similar but LOVED it

Not as good as Home Stretch, with a plot that’s a tiny bit far-fetched. But the character development is good, and I enjoyed my visit to small-town Ireland.

This is a dark, sad tale, which is not always strictly credible, both in the characters' behaviour and in the events that affect them. It is enjoyable, though, and I preferred it to Graham Norton's first work of fiction, "Holding". I'm waiting to see how his new novel "Home Stretch" will turn out

So close to five star, certainly 4-4.5. I laughed, cried and chuckled at the cheeky bits. I even did gasp out loud a couple of times. Engaging style and story telling once again from Graham Norton. Love, secrets, sacrifice and sadness - it had it all.
I have had the benefit of listening to the author narrate both his books and he does it so well. Not only did the story roll along effortlessly, it was utterly believable and human, without being over sentimental or requiring any leaps of faith. The characters were well developed and by no means perfect but all, in the main, likeable - I was always wishing for good outcomes.
Honestly a real pleasure, I cannot wait for his next outing.
Give up the day job Graham, write some more books please!

I had no idea Graham Norton wrote fiction.
I had no idea Graham Norton wrote *good* fiction!
This twisted, dark little story felt very real - thoroughly enjoyable!

I was really craving a palate-cleanser thriller recently. Enter: A Keeper!
I read this one over the course of the long weekend, and thought it was good not great. I liked that it was really fast-paced and that it was set in Ireland (give me all the books set in the Irish countryside!).
I thought it lacked creativity, though. I saw each of the twists coming from a mile away, and I always want to be a bit surprised when I am reading a thriller.
All in all, I wouldn’t run to add this one to the top of your list (unless Irish mysteries are a priority!).

The second of Graham Norton’s books that I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed! It was such a page turner, and took quite a few unexpected twists and turns. Written in ‘Then’ and ‘Now’ chapters, the reader meets 5 generations of a rather unconventional family in a strange and gripping story of mystery, abduction and tragedy. Excellent storytelling!
