This is just sexual assault central but it’s okay because “she secretly likes it”

Suspending my suspension of disbelief

I expected a lot out of this book based on the teaser provided on Amazon, but the more I went on reading, the more I became disappointed. Not going to lie, the first half was good. But all the dominoes started falling when Julian proved how much of a bully he was, is and always will be. He essentially destroyed Autumn but was upset at her for becoming pregnant and hiding his child from him? And like a moth being drawn to a flame, Autumn fell for him time and time again. It’s like she was a glutton for punishment.

I love assholes. My boyfriend is one, but if he treated me the way Julian treated Autumn, he would be single and he would have been very, very sorry. Julian wasn’t just an asshole, he was an absolute douche canoe and he would’ve deserved everything coming his way if only Autumn wasn’t weak kneed for Mr. “I’m going to force myself on you and you’re going to like it.” There is such a thing as consenting non-consent, but that wasn’t it and it certainly wasn’t hot either.

I was further pulled out of my suspension of disbelief when Capri opened her mouth. Yes, she is a precocious little child, but a lot of times she spoke as if there was a 20 year old in her body. Fiction or not, it just didn’t feel realistic and that’s what really threw me off. The immersion of the story was broken every single time.

I don’t usually review books, but I was so upset that I felt compelled to. Kudos to those who enjoyed it, but it just wouldn’t hack it for me.

I read the second one first, then went back to read this one. Definitely not as good as the second, imo. I didn’t like this MMC. And the way he responded when he found out he had a child, was bizarre. He threatened to sue the woman he was trying to win back for 50/50 custody of a child he didn’t even know the name of. WTF? So dumb. The slow burn was also pretty annoying. These are pretty quick reads, but not sure I will continue on with this series

This book was horrible

I haven’t read many second chance romances.. I honestly didn’t know if I liked them or not.. but this was great. It was emotional but funny & sexy. The BANTER was fantastic. I really enjoyed it & will def be reading more by this author!

5 ⭐️ 3

hot and sweet

A couple easy to get to know and a story entertaining to watch unfold. If you enjoy second chance romances with all the angst this is the one for you.

Should have clued in on how angsty it was going to be with the dedication. It was ANGSTY.

I like a man who grovels to get back with the girl, but this was just a lot of tossing of hurt and feelings back-and-forth that started to get old by the end. I did enjoy Julian’s sincerity, but could understand Autumn’s mistrust of everything he said. I don’t blame her, but it’s unbelievable how much we can hurt the ones we love and boy they showed it often.

Julian is my typical alpha-hole I like, but him calling Autumn “kid” all the time was awkward. I understood where it was coming from given they’ve known each other since she was born, but still. I did adore Julian with Capri, though.

Overall, I enjoyed the book for its angst and though it’s angsty, it was kind of drama-free? Does that even make sense? I guess it’s more in the way that it was always Autumn and Julian and that never deviated. I think if it was a little less angsty, I’d have liked it more.

3⭐️ This book was only OK for me as far as romance books go. I didn’t understand the main issue Julian thought they had when they were younger. It didn’t make sense… He didn’t want to hurt the family that was helping raise him, but then he broke the daughters heart by being an asshole and then left everyone behind anyway??
Worth the read?: NO
Reread?: NO
