Very sweet new adult/teenager romance that I enjoyed. Some of the strings of plots weren't tidied up by the conclusion, but it was a nice story to read.
“Feelings can be the most costly thing in the universe.”
This book doesn't reach its potential at all. IT only scratched the surface of all the deeper topics that it could incude. It also ends kind of abruptly and it makes it seem unfinished. We still have no idea about Caymen's father. What really happened between her mother and grandparents? They supposedly threw her out of the house but suddenly they are all good and nice at the end???? Still, it's a fun read with lots of sarcasm included. If you don't expect much from your YA romance, it's a good pick.

Can easily be read in a day. Good story and good writing. It's not that you know what is going to happen. Not in details at least.
It end good (duh) but I wanted more. The story isn't fully closed even when the book is.

This was a great story for middle schoolers looking for a clean romance. Grades 6+
I liked this book. I needed something cute and light after rereading TFiOS and reading We Were Liars in the same week. This was a nice book with good characters. I tend to love when characters are gifted with witty sarcasm and Caymen is definitely gifted :)
Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.
So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she's beginning to enjoy his company.
I've enjoyed other Kasie West's books but this was really poor. The dialogue was dull, a pretty unbelievable story and just general boredom.

3.5 starts. Quick, cute beach read. I enjoyed it, but the ending seemed abrupt and left too many loose ends.
I needed a bit of a palate cleanser after the bitter bile All the Bright Places left in my throat and, as I posted my review for that book, I checked my e-mail and was incredibly grateful to find Kasie West's name in my inbox, here to let me know it was going to be okay, that palate cleanser I so badly needed was available to rent on Overdrive.
From reading the descriptions for her books and then reading By Your Side last week, I've come to believe Kasie West is the perfect author to turn to for a quick and cute little book. It's kind of the book equivalent of a chick flick romcom: not super deep, not very long, and perfect for when you just want to enjoy a little fluff. Plus, almost all West's books are available on Overdrive or through the library as discs, so they're free for me.
I definitely liked By Your Side a lot more than this, but this was cute enough. I liked the relationship Caymen had with her mother and liked that I could feel how strained it had become even though I didn't actually know what it used to be like. I also thought Xander and Caymen were really cute and thought their romance was sweet.
This was just good for wasting away my shift with, just fun enough to hold my attention and get me to care enough to finish, but not much else more than that, though still fun.

I LOVED this book!
I related so much to the main character Caymen and loved reading her sarcasm, I've never read a character who is so sarcastic sometimes people don't get it. That happens to me too and I lived for it in this book!
I loved that there were so many opinions in this that changed, there were still people who were stereotypical and problematic characters but the main characters all became so much more understanding in this!
I loved the ending so much and I would love another book to find out what happens with everyone after this!
