“The great stories are the ones you have heard and want to hear again. The ones you can enter anywhere and inhabit comfortably.”
This book spreads you across time. It shows you how it feels to love something that is broken, to remember pain. It reminds you of your humanity, your frailty, and your strength. I could read it again and again.
Roy’s honesty is so refreshing. She lays bare the rawness of trauma and the jagged edges of healing— even if it makes you uncomfortable. Tenderly, she holds your hand through the house of history, and behests you to look at the truth.
This book is a true 21st century masterpiece.

As a typical YA Fantasy lover who reads to escape reality, this story brought history and politics into view and I was definitely out of my comfort zone, which can and was a good thing.
Overall the story was good, however, there were definitely times where I was confused and was trying to figure out where the story was going as the author did not write in a linear fashion rather jumping from past to present and different characters perspectives making this a slower read for me.
Jumping into the history of people to explain their actions and behaviors provided extra depth to an already chilling story that really drives the story home.

I started reading "The God of Small Things" because it takes place in Kerala which I visited three years ago and I was curious as to how it was portrayed. Unfortunately, it's just not my kind of book, although I have to admit it's not badly written.

I loved this book and it taught me a lot about the history of communism in India. It was so well-written and incredibly haunting. I still think about it a lot.
