Comic book cookbooks are such a cute idea, I need all of mine to be like this

tl;dr : don't read this when you're hungry.

The graphic novel format, and the beautiful art style really amps up the deliciousness in this detailed exploration of ramen cookery.
The bold bright art makes the food more appealing than photos could ever do.
It contains many recipes as well as good tips, and does make ramen cooking look a bit less daunting because each recipe is fairly straightforward. However, the fact remains that a good bowl of ramen has many many components, which means it will be relatively time consming if you only make it once in a while. (You can stock up if you want to eat it regularly ,and it simply becomes an act of reheating and assembly). Nonetheless I would be interested to try some recipes of the components (for example the chasu recipe) to eat just as they are, or in other ways.

Look out for the tribute to those Dearly Departed in the acknowledgments - the bowl of rice with the chopsticks sticking out is a very nice touch.

This felt a bit like The Magic School Bus Learns to Make Ramen, and I really enjoyed that vibe. I appreciated how the authors broke down ramen into simple steps that made it feel accessible, and the illustrations were so warm and inviting. And yes, I did buy A LOT of ramen while I read this cookbook! I’m excited to try the spicy pork ramen recipe the next time my friend (who is equally obsessed with Asian food) comes over.

Cool book.... I'd love to see more graphic novel cookbooks.
informative lighthearted medium-paced

Pictures are always a plus to me with cookbooks.

What an absolutely adorable graphic novel/cookbook. I loved learning all the ramen history, and all of the ingredients that go into my favorite bowl. While the book purports to make at home ramen (not from the package) easy, I am now absolutely sure that this is nothing I will ever attempt at home, and will gladly pay whatever the going rate is at the nearest Ramen-Ya to not have to keep 3 kinds of broth, 5 tares, a pantry full of ingredients, and homemade (!?) ramen noodles on hand at all times.

What an awesome cookbook! I can’t wait to try some of these combos.
