About the Book: Many things could’ve been done better to prevent the mass of various losses we all suffered when Covid pandemic began. Bill Gates has several thought-out suggestions, with full plans of who, how, where, and even on whose money. It’s mostly wishful thinking, as we know who and why pushed for the disregard of the safety during those times. And it’s not likely to ever change.

My Opinion: It’s bittersweet. I’m sure (or want to believe) that author means all the best with this, but it leaves this nasty feeling of detachment, as it’s hard to tell whether he’s just acting naïve or actually is too hopeful. A very detailed, and fairly clear plan, no idea how correct it is, as it’s just not something I’m interested to learn per se (other than the safety measures that work, and the levels of effectiveness), but how does he or anyone else, for that matter, expect people like Musk to let people stay safe and alive, when profits are on the line? Good writing style, easy to read, and an interesting glimpse to a whole other reality.

A good way to summarize this book and our perception on health would be :"We only care about our well-being once it's too late"

A very nice idea and an enjoyable experience to read a book about medicine written by a non-doctor, it gives an interesting and innovative point of view, especially since the author relies mostly on his knowledge of technological innovations to support his claims.

Nevertheless, I remain sceptical about ideas such as GERM and its potential success, such a big manoeuvre is hard to implement and estimate, let's hope we won't need another pandemic to have to confirm this.

Pretty good summary of several aspects of COVID pandemic to demonstrate points of failures and rationale for improvement. As a microbiologist who lived through this, it's a not as informative, but serves as a good entry for those who didn't hear me rant over the past few years.

This book certainly isn't perfect (there are a few points that irk me because they're not precise or come off as misleading / not completely correct), but it will serve well.

PS: I was surprised the audiobook recording had Bill Gates reading the preface / prologue (~9% of the book), then Wil Wheaton took over. He continued for the afterword and the glossary (last 5min of recording).

A very comprehensive overview and an extremely detailed analysis about how to prevent the next pandemic! I am amazed at the insightful narrative and how Bill pulled together this waste amount of knowledge. And still: I unfortunately find this book not very actionable - at least for me personally. At the same time I believe it is a must read for politicians and decision makers!

I found this a pretty good book on pandemics and prevention of major outbreaks. I quite enjoyed this.

It reminded me of how preventable pandemics can actually be, when the right precautions are in place.

I feel this is a must-read for people interested in risk management.

Gates did a great job at detailing what occurred in 2019 and how things could have been taken more seriously.

Parts of it saddend me, just because of how much certain things fell through with regards to COVID.

Let's work together to make pandemics history!
