4.15 AVERAGE

This was a quick read only because I couldn’t put it down.

Robin is staying at her uncle’s home waiting to gain access to the inheritance her parents left that her uncle is hoarding. There she meets a demon, Zylas, who was summoned by her uncle. She was told not to interact with the demon, but one accidentally dropped cookie changed everything and Robin’s curious nature couldn’t be ignored. All leading up to an illegal contract between them and the start of a crazy and dangerous search for the truth.

I loved this story. Robin is a relatable character with social anxiety that makes it hard for her to handle confrontation. Zylas is a great demon. Unlike most stories involving a male demon and a female human, there isn’t any softening of Zylas to make him more of a love interest for Robin. He does exactly what a deadly demon would do in the same situation and I loved it. It made their dynamic more realistic.

The story was well paced and, because Robin is familiar with but not an expert in the magic arts, the explanations on how things work don’t seem forced. Robin needs to know so we, the reader, get to understand alongside her. Very well done.

I am writing this review after finishing the series. But I think I like this book better than the last one. The curiosity that the characters had with one another was fun to read.

Pretty great tbh. I read this while trying to write a 20 page paper due in a few hrs. So yeah I liked it a lot

I wasn't too sure about this in the beginning but this book was actually v cute. And Amalia is on Robin's side now!!!!!! If Amalia ends up betraying Robin, I will be so sad

I loved it.

This book had me from page one till the very end. I mean I sat down to read for a bit and when I looked up next the book was done and it was 1 am...

Let's start with the characters. Loved them. Loved to hate some of them. I liked how real they felt, especially Robin who had traits both relatable and unfortunate. I completely understood being completely timid until curiosity gets the better of you. Been there. Her cousin's reaction to her arrival at their home and why and how the relationship develops. The awkward family encounters yup been there too. Zylas is still a mystery. And there is nothing like the unknown to cause one of two reactions. Run for the hills or dive in deeper. And with Zylas by her side, Robin manages to do both.

Now for the plot. Great. It had some expected, some unexpected, and some new twists to old legends/myths. I definitely cannot wait to read more about the world this author built. I have so many questions and the answers we do get just draw you in deeper. Then ending had me rushing to return book 1 and grab book 2 and that will be an adventure I will hurry to continue.

The flow was good, no choppy scene skipping. There were not a ton of grammatical errors. All in all one of the best things I have read this year.

2.5/5
Truly it’s me, not the book.
So I’m rounding up the stars.
It’s well written and pacing is great but…

This read more like a YA in the character development/plot resolution/cheese, when I was hoping for more since it was labeled NA. Other than Robin and demon boi, I felt that all other characters felt pretty flat (2D) and convenient in a YA genre way. Moreover, due to the plot, much of the book was confined in a small setting we don’t really know much about- and I’m huge on world building. It reminded me of watching a cheesy YA action movie, easy/entertaining, but not really what I wanted.

Also, I really tried to like Robin, because she has relatable traits, however I could not fall in love with her naive/clumsy bookworm character like I wanted to. Though I appreciate how the author developed her growth in this book, I still found myself cringing or irritated at some of her reactions/choices.

I realize this could be because I don’t think I relate to her as much as I expected and because I tend to prefer/idealize the badass heroine character more…

Once again, it’s me, not the book. *sighs*

I never would have thought Spellbound would lower to my 2nd fave series in this universe, but then the author smacked me in the face with Demonized and I'm so happy! This was fantastic! I'm a sucker for demons, so honestly I'm not that surprised I gave this a 4.5 star, rounded up.

I will say tho, I'm so ANNOYED at our heroine, Robin. She needs to grow some balls, grow up, and stop being meek. I think I saw some signs of it and the author is good at character development, but this is my one gripe.

Let's hope Robin shakes off her fear and turns into a badass. Zylas can stay the way he is: scrumptious.

Happy reading, Goodreads fiends!
