Real treat

It’s really interesting beginning. Unusual and unique. FMC is shy and timid, a bit too shy and timid so I hope she’ll grow stronger as the story goes on. There’s lots of action and knowing Annette Marie the story usually gets more complicated as it progresses.

This was a fun read, but not what I was expecting. I picked up thinking it would be a romance and part of a series where each book focuses in one couple. However, the whole 4 books focuses on the same MCs, and this first one has very little romance to it. Finishing it was a bit disapointing because it didn't actually felt like a finish, more like the end of the first part of the story, and now I'm not sure I want to read all 4 books to know what happens to the characters.
What I really enjoyed in the book was how the author portraited the differences in culture between demons and humans. The language use felt very real to my own experiences to living abroad. There's a good balance of using the demon language and still getting the message across to the reader (and the audiobook narrator also deserves a medal of her job too!)

Do I have words for how much I love this book? No, not really.
I have read so many books that have similar themes. Romance, Fantasy, Magic, Demons, NA, YA and so, so, so much more. But this? This book and the series it begins? Man, AMAZING. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. The world building is beautiful and realistic (within the bounds of fantasy). Everything links together like it actually would. It's as if Annette Marie has visited an actual world identical to the Guild Codex: Demonized, and simply copied it all down. There are so many beautiful touches to the storyline and writing that just bring it and the characters to life. Don't even get me started on the characters though. I just wish I could erase my memory and re-experience this book over and over again.

And the dynamic between Robin and the demon? (I won't name because it spoils it ever so slightly) WOW! So unique! And so.. real. They both have their own thoughts and characters and they both have their imperfections too so their interactions as they go through the book are just so intricate, and you just can't help but want to turn the page faster just so you can see where it goes next. Ugh. I could probably write an essay about how much I love this book. And I like a lot of books! But this one. I never write reviews for books, but The Guild Codex: Demonized has my heart.

P.S. This review kind of applies to the whole series, but I'm putting it here because this is the start, and Annette Marie deserves some kind of Nobel Prize for this, so if you've read this far and you haven't started reading it yet, what are you waiting for? Have pigs started flying outside your window? Has the apocalypse begun? I didn't think so. If you want to experience something just as stimulating, this book. Pick it up. Yeah, don't be shy. Pick it up. There's no reason for you not to read this, and every reason for you to pick it up and just have the best ride of your life.

Damn.. I should be sponsored. I probably would promote this for free if she asked me to.

Anyway, why are you still reading this? Robin is waiting for you. Be careful though, once you enter this world, you might not want to leave, so get comfy.

Good start to the series, really liking both the fmc and mmc. The fmc is a bit timid but not in a way that makes me dislike her, mmc is also pretty nice, I'm interested to see what his motivations are. Looking forward to seeing where things go.

4+ stars. Really enjoyed this one. Such a ride. I’ve read the first 4 or 5 books with Tori as the fmc (aka the wide eyed red head at the end of this one) and enjoyed those. But I think I like this one even more. Such a fun ride. And I love how the author didn’t make our lead demon into something he wasn’t while also exploring his complexities.

What a fun ride. Recommend

Awesome

When we first saw Robin in the other codex series, she was introduced from the perspective of the other characters, but the tiny demon contractor was fascinating! This novel, from her perspective widened that lens and shows us the other side- and what she thinks of the original quartet! It’s great and I can’t wait to see what this group gets into next!

Pros:
- Well written
- blends well with the first series while standing alone
- Zylas..... can i have a crush on a demon? I have a crush on a demon.

Cons:
- I thought Robin would be stronger, actually, from seeing her previously. But she’s not. It’s jarring, but it truly works much better this way.
