Read this with my kid, who loved it.  Kids (and parents) behaving badly then getting their comeuppance will always be fun to most kids.  Wonka's manic energy is entertaining and Charlie is a genuinely kind and likeable boy.  It was a fast and enjoyable read.

Parents may want to read through bits first, especially the songs.  I read it aloud and changed or skipped some words.  Being from the '60s, it's got some language that some may find harsh or too mean spirited.  Be aware if you care about such things.

Funny and witty. I love reading Roald Dahl's works because his language is uniquely his. His clever insults are perfectly placed and the deeper message is still relevant. This book amongst others I've read (Matilda and The Twits) will always be in my canon when I am looking for something short and funny.

Deliciously clever. Willy Wonka is a quirky, candy inventor who lives by his own rules--the sort of older but child-like adult mentor every child wants. A comical adventure that still contains the magic after reading it twenty years later.

The language is simple, but its originality make it sound sweet and full of joy. It is truly a great escapist read for someone looking for an uplift in their perspective.

A classic and the plot doesn't need to be explained in anyway and yeah the idiot who thinks that fat people are 'aspirational' obviously didn't read the book or see the movie because he thought that Augustus's crime was being fat, uhh...no it wasn't. Anyway, this book is pretty inspiring and lovely and worth reading.

Another delightful and magical Roald Dahl story. This rag to riches tale is so happily extravagant and over the top with splendor. Yet it also folds in important values that Roald Dahl is so good at incorporating for children without it feeling too moralising.

For me a little bit of magic in the run up to Christmas after some deeply involved novels this year.

I borrowed this as an ebook from my local library. It is definitely worth exploring the options your library has not only physically, but as ebooks and audiobooks. Support your local library!
