I enjoyed reading about Colin and Jen's story especially with her brother and dealing with their grief.  I think it could have dived into that more or her overcoming more of her past and present and becoming a manager.  I wish she would have emphasized more on her growth

3.5 stars full review to follow

Some people see 3 stars or 3.5 stars and think the reader didn't like the book..but not if your reading my reviews. This is my breakdown..3 I liked the book 4 I REALLY liked the book 5 I LOVED the book..so a 3 star read is a good book. Because this book is tied to Drew and Fable and I had my expectations set higher. Fair? Maybe not but I loved their story and craved more of them..in anyway I could get it..

This story is about Jen and Colin, you met them in the last installment of Drew and Fable's story. Colin was a bit slimy for me in the last book, but I try not to write a character off and have been known to go from despising a support character to LOVING them in their own story. I don't know that I fell in love with Colin but I did like him.

"So scary, but the only time I feel safe. the only time I feel like I'm at home, is when I'm with Colin." Jen

Jen on the other hand was a hard pill to swallow for me. She tried to act like her actions were based on surviving and strength, but to me she was weak. Much of the story was based around both her weakness and his loyalty to her brother and family. It wasn't my cup of tea. Personally a weak female can totally ruin a story for me, but Jen had a bit of a backbone in finally demanding Colin stop fucking around and start fucking her.. Now were talking..looking up baby!

I enjoyed this story and read it through but it was missing a little bit of fire and passion that Drew and Fable encompassed. Fable's friendship was the little spark I needed to draw me to Jen. If you have friends I like then you can't be so bad right..

Ever since I read the first book earlier this year, I've been in love with Monica Murphy's writing. When I heard Jen and Colin were getting their own book I was beyond thrilled. And while this book doesn't have the same emotional punch like the first two books it was still a really great addition!

Jen is ready to move on. From this town, from her secrets, and unfortunately, Collin. She has a past she's not proud of but at the time she felt like it was her only option. Collin saved her from it but he doesn't know the full extent of what is was like and what she was doing. And if he knew, Jen feels likes he won't want anything to do with her at all. Here's the thing about Jen, I had things that I both liked and disliked about her. At times she seemed so strong and I loved her for it. And in a way she really is. Trying to move on, to keep going after everything. But then, right after she would seem weak. I just wish she was more independent. I love Collin for helping her but I wish we could have seen her save herself instead of always depending on Collin to help her.

Collin has been living with guilt for a really long time. He can't help but feel responsible for everything that happened with Jen, with her brother and even her family. He feels like he let people down and so he's always trying to save Jen. I loved Collin and I especially loved that we got to read from his POV as well. The one thing I didn't like about him was that he was a runner. Meaning every time things got hard or feelings were brought up, he would run away and ignore it. Which makes me wonder if he's always going to do that with Jen in the future. As the book went on you could definitely see some character growth between both of them, I just hope to see more of it as the series goes on.

Despite the small issues I had with the characters, I could't stop reading! I started this book at around 10 pm and I told myself I just wanted to read a chapter or two but four hours later I was fighting sleep to see what would happen next. I'm so in love with this series and I can't wait to read Owen's story next!

I loved Drew and Fable's story and was excited to learn more about Colin and Jen. Unfortunately, I found both characters to be extremely annoying. I found myself skipping numerous papers at a time because 95% of the book was the 2 of them constantly arguing about their relationship. This got really old really fast, and I was disappointed after reading the first 2 books of the series. Then at the end, it just seemed out of character the way they worked things out. The book did not need to be as long as it was. I feel like this one was a waste of time. I will still give Owens story a shot and have high hopes for that one.

After reading various reviews about how this novel DID NOT live up to the perfection that was the first two books in this series, I've decided to shelf this one as a DNF. I'd rather just keep my gloriously happy thoughts and memories about how amazing Drew and Fable's story was and let these characters ride off into the sunset on a magical unicorn instead of tarnishing them with the last two novels about characters we like, but don't necessarily want to read about. So sayonara Drew and Fable--one of my absolute favorite stories and couples of all-time!

DNF.

I began this book without reading the blurb or anything about the story at all, and that's my own fault, because I downloaded the book believing it was about Drew and Fable. I know, I'm an idiot. However, I remember being intrigued by Jen and Colin's story and so read along gladly. A few chapters in and I found the story stale and unbelievable. I didn't believe that they were good friends, where was the proof? And I didn't believe that they could feel so much for each other but do nothing about it. There didn't seem enough reason to and, in truth, I didn't particularly care about their future. Not like I had for Fable and Drew's.

I'll finish by saying I love Monica's writing and that's the very reason I've given this book a 3 star rating despite not finishing. My not finishing had little to do with the writing and everything to do with my own false expectations.

This was an exercise in patience for me. I wanted to DNF this book several times because the suppression of feelings and the juvenile BS keeping these two from getting on with it for very annoying. Fortunately, Murphy wrote in a few plot enhancements that kept me going.

This was book 3 in the Drew + Fable series, and as I haven’t read any of the others in the series I had no idea beforehand who any of the characters in this story were. I actually felt a little bit lost reading it. And that maybe not having read the other books was a disadvantage to me liking this one.

Before deploying to Iraq, Danny made his best friend Colin promise to look after his younger sister Jen if anything happened to him. So when Danny doesn’t come back from Iraq, Colin decides to make good on his promise to his fallen friend. He gives Jen a place to stay and a job at his restaurant but these things don’t help Colin with the guilt he feels, nor does it help Jen with her struggles.

I usually like best-friend’s-little-sister stories, but more than once I wanted to throttle both of these characters. I understand Colin’s guilt and his inability to be more open with his feelings (what guy is open?) but his constant feelings of shame and unworthiness were too much for me. I think that the author was trying to make the character of Jen appear naive, but all I found was immaturity. Her need to feel like she was independent, but still actually rely on Colin for things like food, a job and shelter, drove me bananas.

The constant push/pull relationship going on between Colin and Jen grew tiring. I get that this was a NA, angsty book, but at some point both of these characters needed to just grow up and join the real world.

Overall, Three Broken Promises was just an o.k novel for me, I don’t think I will be continuing on with any future books in this series.
