I ADORE this series but this book kinda disappointed me. Dani and Ryodan deserved way more love

Finally got this book done. It was good though as always.

Well there’s one more addition to this series, and I gotta say that it’s quite a random addition too. It’s still good, it’s still enjoyable, but it feels like it’s reaching a little bit further by this point in order to stay alive and interesting. Most fans seem to enjoy it, but I’m wondering to myself why I consider it one of the weaker books in the whole series, the other one being [b:Iced|12444166|Iced (Fever, #6)|Karen Marie Moning|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1333022535l/12444166._SY75_.jpg|17427104]? Maybe I’m not as big of a fan of Dani as I like to try and convince myself I am, because those are her two books!

I’m a little bummed that my reaction to it is…less than enthusiastic as it has been with the other books. Like that book earlier down the line, I just thought this book wasn’t as exciting and was honestly just a lot more random and weird. I like Dani enough, she’s really grown into a strong character after everything she’s endured, but I guess I’m still just not the biggest fan of her taking center-stage in these books.

I would say this book’s biggest downfall was that it all mostly felt like setup for that final book to come. It had a lot more filler and hints at the final war several times while giving you just enough to keep you interested in reading on, but I still felt like more could’ve happened to help make this book feel more exciting in itself. You get to see just about every major character at least once in this book, some have bigger storylines going on than others like usual, but this brings me back to my comment about it all just being setup. With the exception of Dani and Ryodan, there wasn’t a whole lot of conclusions or wrap-ups for anyone else, so I’m to expect that all in the eleventh book itself.

I feel like this series has been with me for so much longer than just a little over a year now, but maybe that’s because so much happens and the characters have gone through so much and have grown all alongside it all. I can’t imagine how some fans must feel that the series is drawing to a close after 15 years of being a part of it all!

While my reaction to this book was lukewarm, that certainly doesn’t deteriorate my excitement for the next and final book: [b:Kingdom of Shadow and Light|34472927|Kingdom of Shadow and Light (Fever, #11)|Karen Marie Moning|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1574838506l/34472927._SY75_.jpg|55596352]! I will definitely be going to my local B&N to grab a hardcover copy to absolutely devour and add to my shelf once I've immediately read it.

Thanks for Reading!

Dani and Ryodan!!! I was so thrilled to finally get their story. The plot has some fun twists that I did not see coming. The ending left me satisfied but wanting more.

Wonderful surprises.

I loved this to bits. I didn’t think I could love these characters more but, I do. There better be another Fever novel!

There’s definitely a “jump the shark” element to this book and I do think it’s hard in a series when you have a spin-off and your characters are pretty similar to the original characters... like we’ve got a bit of a repeat storyline going on here with the romance. At the same time, it’s one of my favorite romance tropes so I don’t hate it. I also think that in the midst of this crazy, urban fantasy book with faeries, “beasts”, gods, humans, etc.... moning writes really (really!) eloquently about love and loss and grief . I mean . If you can read “the letter” without crying (iykyk) do you even have a heart? Of course, the words in grief and loss resonate with me because I have lost people in my life and she just nails it. We’ve got book 11 coming in January 2021- will that be jt? Honestly, I hope not. I keep reading these thinking how is she going to continue the series, then she does and it works. At the very least she can expand on a lot of the side characters: Christian, kat, Sean, Daegus (seriously- where is he?) that she introduces and then basically let’s fall to the side with no further mention. I’m still waiting for more information about Kasteo! That being said, loved it like pi.

Well.... they weren’t Mac and Barrons but, they weren’t supposed to be. KMM admits on her FBK page that this book will read a bit different than the rest of the fever series... so I was okay with that. I think for me the biggest difference for me was that Dani’s great adventure wasn’t fighting another villain but instead seem to be about her finding herself.

Ryodan was a bit angsty.... but then again we are seeing him through Dani’s eyes and his relationship with her is different than his relationship with Mac. I’m not sure that this is KMM’s best book, but I’m also not sure that my opinion isn’t biased because I’m so used to being in Mac’s head.

i hope we get to hear more of dani and her adventures.

I have mixed feelings here. I, unlike most of Moning's fans, really enjoyed Iced and looked forward to the next books being mostly Dani's story. I loved Mac and Barrons but felt like their stories had been concluded at least as far as them being the main focus. But then came Burned and subsequent books and, while enjoyable, were overshadowed by my disappointment over Dani being shifted to secondary status in the story. In High Voltage we don't get a look at previous events from Dani's POV but a new story set afterwards that begins with Ryodan leaving for two years.

Uuuuugggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

I wanted TIME with Dani's story and to me this felt too rushed. Too little Dani and Ryodan together and therefore too little emotional payoff in the end. I also felt as though the events almost could have been split up into two books. It seemed by the ending as if there may not even be any further Dani books. Or maybe that isn't true but the feeling I got from the ending was that things were wrapping up.

Despite my rant I still gave High Voltage a high review because I DID enjoy the book and I'm so glad to finally get another book focusing on Dani. I just wanted more payoff for my very long wait.

FINALLY. IT IS ABOUT TIME. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR SOOO LONG FOR THIS.

Going into this book I was worried that I would have issues connecting with Dani, but I ended up finding myself connecting to her more than I ever had in previous books. This was a great installment to the series and a great beginning to a new storyline/focus in the series as well. I'd definitely recommend this book for fans of the series, and even newcomers to it, as a lot of the backstory is explained in this one, and the writing has matured so much since the first book.
