This felt like a classic romance in the best way. Lucy is the little sister to a friend group and wants to get her girlhood crush's attention by making him jealous (fake dating type but everyone is in on it separately, basically). She's irreverent, a little petty, and her judgement is appropriately questionable for a 19-year-old; I thought she was great. Jeremy is your regular Type A aristocrat with Daddy issues; again, nothing groundbreaking here, but his tendency for self-torture never felt tedious, which is a testament to the characterization! It was really easy to understand how and why he made the mistakes he did.

Beyond that, the story is set in not one, but two, country estates. The end-of-book drama was appropriately low stakes (no 95% mark surprise kidnappings, thankfully), and I really liked how hunting and poaching tied into the story; it made for a really solid theme! There was a good bit of angst toward the end, which I always like when I'm really rooting for the couple. The side characters were also great; Toby is a Colin from Spindle Cove prototype, and Sophia was a treat; the development of her friendship with Lucy was a really nice touch. Henry was an imperfect brother, but his conversation with Jeremy and Lucy when they were preparing to leave won me over and set up the next phase of the book perfectly. All in all, 'Lovely,' as Aunt Matilda would say.

I had never heard of this early entry by Tessa Dare, but I consistently really enjoy her work. This was less quirky than a lot of her books (exception: Lucy herself is very quirky), but she tells a great story without it. The audiobook narrator was also solid.

What a disappointment this book was.  I LOVE Tessa Dare's writing, I've read quite a few of her books, but this one was a huge miss for me.  There was ZERO chemistry between the two main characters, not to mention that the FMC was young enough for this to have a little bit of the ick to it. I will not be continuing on with this series.

Not my favorite Tessa Dare, but enjoyable nonetheless. Lucy reminds me a bit of the Queen of Wands.

I LOVED the spindle cove series and everything else Tessa Dare, so I had perhaps too high expectations of this book. I liked the heroine, but the main man had pretty much no redeeming qualities. There was too much of the book taken over with them walking around each other because they wouldn't just talk. Like really, it was long. And the audio book narrator developed a lisp halfway through, I'm not sure how that happens. Overall, it was fine, but maybe skip it.

This is the second time I read Goddess Of The Hunt, because I want to finish the trilogy and I barely remembered the characters and what happened to them.

And let me tell you, I don't know what could have possessed me to give this book 5 stars the first time.

I found the whole story boring and I couldn't bring myself to like any of the characters, apart from Jeremy himself and Sophia Hathaway.

Who could ever resist a stone-faced, cold-eyed sexy devil, who, in truth, just longs for love and acceptance?

And Sophia with her thoughts of pirates, tales of passion and vivid imagination is just wonderful.

I can't wait to read her book.

But Lucy Waltham, the heroine, herself? I can't, for the love of me, understand how I actually loved her the first time I read this book.

She is annoying, childish, selfish and immature.

It annoyed me to no end how she kept throwing herself at Toby's feet, arranging stupid schemes that could only end badly.

Especially with Jeremy there by her side. Gosh, she was so blind.

Her brother, Henry, was dull-witter, annoying and even cruel at times.

Toby, the guy Lucy kept throwing herself at, was a selfish asshole. He wanted all the girls to love him, so even though he didn't feel the same for Lucy, he kept encouraging her.

Felix, the other friend, was dumb as hell and his wife Kitty, Sophia's sister, was a bitch.

What a bunch!

So, unfortunately, I only felt the same way I did the first time in three situations:

- during the infinite period of time Lucy was running around like a fool, chasing Toby

- when Lucy realized (and me too) that she was tired of chasing Toby

- when I found out the truth about Jeremy's past

I will, however, read the other 2 books, because, like I told you, I want to finish the trilogy. But it didn't work for me.

Read it at your own risk.

I usually am a fan Tessa Dare, I read like 8 books from her now and this one was on my list since 1/ it's one of her first story and 2/ a friend of mine highly recommended it ..

Well for me it flet flat ... You can see and well ... READ haha that this book does not have the same rhythm her others books have. It's well but something is missing.

Glad I read it, don't know if I will continue on with Sophia's story though... will see ;)

Call me Henry the 8th because I am DEAD!
Omg this was way too fun. I am now officially uncomfortable and in distress about how much I love ridiculous romances. Like the quote from the book says “Lucy felt pagan just looking at him”. That’s me with this book. It’s problematic. This novel took off its shirt and I blushed, ya know what I’m saying?
Jeremy is a dirty mr. Darcy and can i just say, nobody asked for this, but everyone is loving it. “Most ardently”.
I’ll leave my favorite quote here, just to get a better understanding of how ridiculous this book is (Dame Judy Dench reading in the most perfect British accent): *whilst getting it on* “Lucy never claimed to be an authority on the definition of ladylike behavior, but she knew the difference between good breeding and...well, just plain breeding”. Stop! GET OUT NO I’M WHEEZING
