The atmosphere gave off the perfect summer vibes!! I could see the lake house, the banana boat sunscreen, the beach towels, fun-colored swimsuits, etc. It was all so nostalgic, and it made me smile.  I love a book that can let you see the atmosphere.

This was messy. In the sense that both FMC and the MMC are going through their own coming of age story, emotions (SO MANY), tension, dreams, and lots of layers to each bit. There was also a heavy bit on cultural differences and being the children of immigrants: the pressure, the idea of living the American Dream, etc which I always love to read about because I can relate. It tugs at the heart strings.

I am also not a fan of miscommunication buttttt seeing that these characters were also teens at points, makes sense. While the FMC was not my favorite, I understood her.

‼️ I think my complaint is that I wish this was more character driven rather than story driven? I feel like the characters were robbed of decisions and it took away from the story.  And although this had bits of YA which I usually do not mind, at times I just did not relate to it. The "I have strict parents" trope was a bit repetitive throughout and I found myself saying "Ok we know that..."

I feel like this author and Carly Fortune went to the same writing class, and both published a book based on an assignment they were given.  Parents buy lake house, girl falls for boy next door, eventually they part, meet back up as adults and fall in love again.  This story is so unoriginal, I tried to read the whole book, but felt like I was wasting my reading time.

This was such a good book. I really loved how fleshed out the characters were, and I didn't expect where it was really going except I would eventually get my HEA.

I will say that I wish the ending was less jam packed and upsetting OR that they gave more of the ending a longer time because I needed more of the dopamine and happy feelings cause now I'm just sad.

The experience of being a immigrant kid, hit me. My parents were as aggressive as hers were, but there was definitely relatable things in this dynamic.

Overall, a great read. I am glad I got it on audio.

I quite enjoyed reading this one. It gave Christina Lauren's Love and Other Words meets Annabel Monaghan's Same Time Next Summer.

I really appreciate the FMC storyline with her family and the tensions she feels creating her own story, but I was disappointed in the dual timelines and teenage miscommunication trope because I’ve read so many of those types of books and the reveal comes late in this story (followed by the resolution). However I would recommend this for romance fans who read less frequently and it’s a promising debut I enjoyed.

It reads a lot like an early Carley Fortune book (lake, cottage, regrets) but with immigrant storylines and characters that to  me were a lot more  interesting (personally). I will follow this author and I can’t wait to read her next books. Love my Canadian authors and she’s one to watch.

15 years ago, Lia's family bought a summer cottage and on the first day Lia met the neighbor, Wes. They become fast friends and eventually lovers in their teen years.

But after a tragic accident and some missed communication, Lia and Wes don't talk until Lia comes up to the cottage a decade later to take care of her cousin.

What happens next is an unraveling of the past and of present expectations that have held Lia back.

Gosh, I loved every page of The Summers Between Us! The pining, the depth of the love Lia and Wes have for each other, the cottage country setting - amazing!

Lia is going to be a character that sticks with me for a long time. She faced a lot of family expectations and effectively acts as a care taker for many people in her life. Her journey is one of overcoming obligation and expectations to be more herself. I got that on a bone deep level
