My main question is how can an "emancipated minor" [as indicated in Blue Bloods when Cordelia passes away] be adopted? Is this actually possible? I hope the author wouldn't make such a glaring contradiction.
Ok, now that that's off my chest...
I'm intrigued by all the mythology and theology, I suppose, though it often makes me think of Supernatural, a show that I love, and therefore feel like this series is copying the show. And I'm really curious about the whole Maggie Stanton story and how it will parallel this one.
The 2nd is by far better than the 1st, and I intend to keep reading because I would like to know what happens, assuming that something actually does happen.

3.5 - I'm bumping this up .5 stars over the first one. While this book was still very much a young adult novel (in the way the story is written and how the characters behave), it was fun to read regardless. I love how the story and histories of the vampires are unraveling, and look forward to reading what else Melissa de la Cruz has in store. Plus I think I'm developing a crush on both Jack and Oliver!

Hmm, this series is getting good! It's refreshing when you have a plot that takes center stage and is detailed and interesting. Yes there are the relationship stuff and that is interesting but the plot doesn't suffer because of that. It's nice to be reading a book and not automatically know what the twists and turns are going to be.

I'm a vampire nutcase. I admit it. But these books are EONS ahead of Twilight in writing and creativity, IMHO. No "sparkly" vampires who are wannabe disney fairies. No more not needing human blood to live.
Vampires in NYC just seem ...sexier better, yanno?
To be honest, the whole series is like a "Gossip Girls" thing with a Dracula twist. Funfunfun!
By FAR my favorite book in the series so far, Schyler just seems to be getting stronger as a protagonist.
In one of my favorite scenes (the Four Hundred Ball) Shy wears the dress her mother wore attending the same type of event so many years ago. It gave her a prescence..... Made her grow up in a way. Realize she has (in some ways) be brave like her mother.

I'm getting more into this series as it gets more complex. Also, I suppose I'm just getting used to it, so the little character/writing things that annoyed me in the first book don't bother me in this one. The "suspense" can be kind of annoying in that it seems forced and TVshow-like with the cutting away of scenes and different POVs, but the hope that it will all be explained eventually makes up for it. Certainly makes me want to read the next book, so it's a good tactic, I guess.

Very quick read. You can tell de la Cruz had a good story in mind when she started the series.
