This is quite possibly the most boring book I’ve ever read. The only reason I even finished it is because I have a 100 books bucket list poster and this is one of the books on there. It was like reading the most boring historical book you could find, but serving absolutely no purpose because it’s not even real. I thought the characters were dull and the 20 or so pages of Goldstein’s book were torturous. I get why people find it important to read, but I definitely think the Sparknotes version will get the point across and save you agonizing hours of trying to get through this book.

As an adaptation of the book, Audible's dramatisation leaves a little to be desired on the narrative front, but certainly makes up for it performance wise

Horny and boring. Those two words usually aren't used in conjunction, but they perfectly describe 1984. This book is so horny but lacks any sensuality or romance, so it really just feels lame and limp. Orwell clearly has never pleased a woman in his life. Would rate 0 if not for a handful of interesting concepts here and there, and I guess it was original for its time I suppose.

George Orwell's '1984' immerses you in a dystopian future that captivates from the very beginning. The oppressive atmosphere and omnipresent surveillance prompt deep reflections on individual freedom and the power of government.

Orwell's blunt descriptions and emotional intensity make '1984' a timeless masterpiece that continues to resonate to this day.

the unfortunate timing of when i read this caused me to like it less: my english teacher had us read this directly after reading Brave New World. while i understand why these are paired together so often, to me it eventually felt like i was reading the same book. the beats are the same, some of the ideas are almost exactly the same, the plot twists operated in the same way and even the notion of an unsatisfying ending was the same. 1984 is undoubtedly fascinating and very well written--the use of language is very clever, there's lots of subtle humor throughout, and the pacing is pretty good. but after Brave New World, it just felt like more of the same.
