Did I like this book? I guess so. I found it was very underwhelming in comparison to the first one. Also I like legit hate Reid he’s so whiny and annoying and Lou is too good for him or any man

The only good part was ANSEL DYING. I did not expect her to kill him off like that. Also NICHOLINA POSSESSING LOU??? Reading the next one legit to just find out what happens to her

MY BOY ANSEL 😭😭😭

3 out of five stars!

i absolutely loved serpent & dove but this second book was painful to get through. i feel like it could have been trimmed down to 300 pages. it took SO LONG for anything to happen. yes, we got to meet new characters but there was no action until like page 375. it was just way too long.

what the hell is going on with lou and reid? i kept wondering if they got cursed or something because they are totally different than they were in S&D. why did they get all angsty and dumb. reid all of a sudden deciding that he has a problem with lou being a witch was the most infuriating thing ever. he tells her he loves her and kills his father figure to save her life but then says he hates the most important thing about her? when he was fine with it before? makes absolutely no sense.

i love how madame labelle got kidnapped and then just wasn’t mentioned for 100 pages like she’s not an important side character and REID’S MOTHER. they really left her high and dry after she saved their asses. i’m sure they’re gonna save her in the next book but they all just kinda forgot about her.

la voisin and nicholina turning on lou in the last two pages came out of nowhere. you’re telling me la viosin knowingly let morgane have access to her coven and was okay with her killing the kings bastards? nahhhh it literally makes no sense. i think we tried to fit too many “big twists” at the end of this book.

ANSEL!! NOOOO!!! i knew someone was gonna die and i had a feeling it would be him but i’m not happy about it. idk who i would have rather die but ansel deserved better. poor boy didn’t even get to really live.

Thank you to Harper360ya for sending me an E-ARC of Blood & Honey I really appreciate this opportunity. Blood & Honey is the second book in the Serpent & Dove series. I read the first book, Serpent & Dove earlier on in the year and really enjoyed it so it is safe to say I was super excited to give this one a go. I had heard a mixture of reviews from people that had already read it, so I lowered my expectations slightly to try and avoid disappointment. I was not disappointed in the slightest, I really enjoyed it. I liked it just as much as I liked Serpent & Dove.

What I will say is that Blood & Honey is no where near as action packed as Serpent & Dove was. It took until the 60% mark to really get going with the action. For me that made room for more character building that I feel we really needed after the first book. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of action in this book but it is not as constant and definitely has a slow burn plot which may not be for everybody. BUT as soon as you get past that 60% mark you will definitely struggle to put it down. As soon as I got to this point I found myself having less sleep at night because I just have no discipline and did not want to put the book down. Blood & Honey is certainly to blame if I lose my job through tiredness and lack of concentration.

I love Lou so much, her sassyness is just excellent. It is what made me fall in love with her in Serpent & Dove and this personality trait really shines through in Blood & Honey. She had me laughing out loud from the first page with some of the things she says, she just does not care. That is my kind of gal. Team Lou! Reid, oh Reid. This book is certainly the one that helped me to fall in love with Reid. It really is a journey of him discovering himself, learning to cope with his new life and also how to cope with the events of the previous book. Reid really did shine for me. I mean I really liked all of the characters, but another that stood out for me is Ansel. I loved him in Serpent & Dove but I love him even more in this one. The characters in this book definitely contributed massively to my now broken heart. I won't go into detail as I want to be able to give a spoiler free review, but please talk to me if you have read this book because I need to discuss with someone.

The ending of this book broke me in ways I didn't know it could. It has been 12 hours since I finished and I couldn't bring myself to write a review until now. WHAT AN ENDING. I just cant put into words how much this has had an impact on me. As soon as I finished I immediately researched whether there was going to be another book and apparently there is! I NEED IT NOW.

I really enjoyed Blood & Honey and thought that it equally compared to Serpent & Dove, I enjoyed them both in different ways. I would recommend and will be continuing to recommend this series. Blood & Honey will be released in the UK on 17th September and you should definitely preorder/put it on your list.

Honestly, this book was amazing but it took me so long to read since I was in a massive reading slump. Without the slump I would probably rate it higher than a four. I think it's just because it was a long book, a very big one. But the writting was beautiful, every thing that was written had a MEANING to it. I remember one of the french proverbs that was like, real love means you sacrifice to get it. Something like that and by reading this book it really REALLY showed that, the relationship between Reid and Lou. How they would sacrifice their own bodies, souls for eachother, to save one another. The writting was chef's kiss it was so good, lots of imagery, it was amazing. It allowed me to really envision what the characters are doing all the time, it made it easy to really go into the book. Anyway, Lou's character is so good as well, complicated but good. She has her flaws but they are a main focus, I really liked the concept of if she uses to much she can fall into that trance where she is ENEVELOPED by the magic and evil takes place, how her friends and Reid help her overcome it and start to tread lightly. This was a big dip but hopefully Lou gets better, you can see the major difference of Lou's character between the first and second book and how dying her hair really symbolised and foreshadowed the troubles she would have with her Mother and her own Magic. ALSO BTW CLAUD DEVERUAX IS ONE OF MY FAVS, I was so like cautious around him, I was scared he was going to ruin his character because I really liked him. But love how he's a father figure towards the end of a book to Lou, and how he really cares about her. There is comfort in the found family in this book. But the ending wowww, honestly it made me like Claud more and hopefully we know more about his sister because she seems so cool. If you read the book you know what I'm talking about. I WROTE TOO MUCH!!
SO SCARED FOR LOU THOUGH THAT ENDINGG AHH I HOPE SHES ALRIGHT
