A really fun buddy comedy style book about a mom and son who are on the run after a revenge tactic on an ex goes horribly wrong.

I do wonder if this book missed its audience by being categorized incorrectly and feel that, with the teenage main character and his spot-on voice, this book could have been more at home in the YA space. I loved how deeply and terribly flawed Joey was in the way that all heartbroken and scorned teens are (though there were a lot of exclamation points) and feel like with a bit more developing as a YA book instead could have really hit home with a lot of young people transitioning in big moments of their lives.

This book was super cute and such an easy read. I've been trying to read more queer authors, especially during June. I don't think I will ever find a book as good as The Heart's Invisible Furies (if you somehow have recommendations plz let me know!)
I was drawn to this book by the cover and thought it sounded like a good book. The main character Joey is awkward, and fucked up and just trying to navigate life after high school. This book had cringe moments that make you feel awkward for him but also moments that make you laugh out loud with him.

Thanks to NovelSuspects on Instagram and Nicolas Didomizio for the ARC of this book.

This novel is billed as Gilmore Girls meets Thelma and Louise and it definitely lives up to that comparison. It was a funny, sarcastic look at this mother and son and all of their past relationships that have gone badly. This will be a great addition to your summer reading pile and I highly recommend picking it up when it is published in May 2021.

3.5 stars - the beginning of the book and the ending of the book (except the last few chapters) were the most interesting but with a lot of middle. For a book about an aspiring comedian it really wasn’t all that funny. A little cheesy but that’s not always a bad thing. Main character was lowkey annoying.

What a joy of a book! I haven’t read many books specifically about the bond between a Mother and Son, and this one was both heartfelt and hilarious. I’d love to hear what comes next for these characters, but I’m also fully satisfied with it as a standalone.

This book was such a fun read, despite the serious nature of the crime the mother and son accidentally commit. As a queer person, I loved that this book had a queer main character without having a coming out or homophobia storyline, unlike a lot of other queer books. That’s not to call the other books bad, but I want more stories with queer characters that don’t fall into these two categories, which this book does! By no means is the book perfect; it does rely on gay and Italian-American stereotypes at times, but that my biggest complaint. The characters start off as awful people, especially in relationships, but you do get to see growth.

this book was so chaotic that something came over me tonight and i had to finish it. it seemed so larger than life and i honestly couldn’t predict how it was going to resolve which drove me crazy.

it also felt very genre-bending. it didn’t seem to fit neatly into any category and is self described as a buddy comedy revenge novel whatever that means??? that also drove me crazy.

one of the scenes did make me feel a little uncomfortable—it had the vibes of sexual assault??? that soured it for me.

i’m not really sure how i feel about the book as a whole??

This book was a DNF for me. The characters were so unlikable and their behavior so awful that I could not make myself care about them enough to keep reading. I was so anxious about their awful choices that I found myself wanting to cover my eyes and run away.

This was fun but I had higher expectations I think. Regardless it was an easy read and a solid debut.

Also to be fair, I'm still mourning defend the dawn so maybe that affected my feelings lmao we hate a book hangover
