A solid 3.5, rounded up because I'm unabashedly biased toward all things Hemingway.
If you've seen her incredible documentary, there's little more to be found here - a few behind the scenes peeks into her movies (plus stories about co-stars like Kurt Russell and Eric Roberts) as well as more recent goings-on in her life. That said, I devoured this one and enjoyed it.
However, there were really weird pauses, as though she had the book in front of her while reading and was flipping the page, only more often, that became a little grating.

This book was a fairly quick read, and it was somewhat interesting, but it just wasn't compelling. Maybe it was the fact that I already knew much of the story, or the fact that Hemingway considered Creator to be a "light comedy" - it's not, in case you were wondering, and it's long been a favorite movie of mine - but I just never felt absorbed in this book in the way I wanted to be. And honestly, maybe some of it for me was that I do enough of my own self-analysis - I don't need to read someone else's self-analysis, which is what a LOT of this book was. So I think you could probably skip this one, unless you have some obsession with the Hemingway family that this feeds.

Thought it would be more informative about what she was doing to help prevent mental illness in herself and her kids but it was very self involved

I stumbled across this book on libby while trying to find an Ernest Hemingway book and decided it could be quite interesting to learn about the family.
Although I thought there would be more about Ernest Hemingway himself I did actually enjoy the book. I read it having no idea who these people actually were or knowing any of their movies but it was still a great read with the underlying messages and the dysfunctional family story.
Not coming from a family with addictions I didnt find it to be too triggering for me although I have alot of close people to me who are or have been around addiction I can see how it could upset them but I could also see how it could possibly help them and give them that feeling of not being alone.
All up I found the book to be very intriguing and insightful and I would definitely recommend it.

Yuck. Not worth reading. Some parts were interesting but overall, this book is not worth the time it takes to read it.

surprisingly introspective in some ways but why does everyone who ever worked with woody have to ride his dick so hard lmao. mariel's obviously a lil different because he preyed on her when she was a child but i truly don't understand this Actor's Compulsion to celebrate and defend this ugly loser creep who should be pushed in front of the nearest semi! woody allen die bitch

Interesting to learn first-hand about the youngest Hemingway daughter, Mariel, and her famous family.
