This book was interesting but waaaaay too long. I listened to the audiobook on close to 2x speed and that helped but it was still a drudge.

Also, it wasn’t so much a self help book as it was a recitation of many studies (some of which have been debunked, so take it with some grains of salt).

Love that this is a dive into how the brain works rather than an author's arbitrary musings and timeline on how to create good habits. THIS gave me a real understanding of how my habit-brain operates. And yes, implementing what she presents is going to be more work than the 'X Days To Good Habits' methods I've tried before. But that's OK because I've tried 40-days to create this habit, and 6-weeks to change that one, and none of it has stuck in the long run. Now I know why.

Great ideas for how to make forming habits easier and some context for why we fail most of the time. Hoping to take some of these perspectives into the new year.

More a 3.5 to be precise.

This book is interesting, useful and gives you a lot of information that you could put to good use in your path to become a better person with better habits. But if your looking for a good self-help book, I don't think this book is the best option for you. This book is whole about research and, although never boring, the author tends to throw at you a huge amount of data and experiments (A LOT of rats experiments that made me uncomfortable) that at the end of the read you don't really know what to do with all of that. More than self-help, I think it would be more useful for someone studying the subject for academic purposes.

AUDIOBOOK note: I listened to this book and I really enjoyed how the author reads it. I definitely suggest to listen to it!
