I really wanted to like this, but struggled to get through it. I really wanted to know more about the world, the magic, as well as the trials. I also really liked Kirsi more than Raven. Maybe the second book will be better??

The book dragged into its second half and I found myself skimming. Also the heroine felt too silly to be believed.

☁️ I’m currently on a RTD book binge before I go. I discovered this author while I was researching my currently favorite genre, romantasy. The MMC is so attractive, I don’t know how the author just made me forget about my other favorite shadow daddies, Rhys and Xaden but this one
adventurous emotional medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix

I’ll take another brooding man with dark hair that can wield shadows for my collection thank youuuuuu

After some thought reducing my rating to a 3. What annoyed me is that the FMC just didn’t ever seem to take control and I hated the first chapter of the next book. She was just too naive and easily manipulated and really she was too bad in the trials to validate her position and the whole ringing of the ears was just too much. After reading reviews of the second book I decided to DNF the series.

Original review:

I don’t know how I feel about this book. I mean it’s good. But I can’t say I enjoyed it. The last 20% filled me with anxiety and I somehow wish she got there quicker. Of course with than ending I have to read the next book immediately

This book is decent, but lacking real depth. It's a very entertaining read and has a great story. I enjoy the magic system, and while I feel the romance is mostly unbelievable, I'm fine with it too. With some extra effort made to really bring these characters and this world to life, it could have been excellent. Phenomenal even.

My issues with this series are around character and relationship development. There is none. Everytime we meet a new character they are instantly a part of the gang. Insta-love, insta-found family, insta-deep friendships. We don't watch relationships form and infer closeness through thoughts and actions as a reader, we are basically told "and then we were the best of friends".

Part of me feels like it's such a shame because this author has a good voice, and great ideas, but this reads like YA. I'll keep my eyes open for Miranda Lyn works in future though because I feel like this author has a LOT of potential. These books could have been GREAT, instead of just good.

I went on to read book 2 right away because this was an enjoyable read, but there is real room for improvement here.

The Unmarked Witch – Miranda Lyn
„The Unmarked Witch” to moja pierwsza książka z Moonlight Book Box. Poza atrakcyjną okładką wołały do mnie wyklejki.

No i zakończenie. A z oceną mam dylemat.

I...what the fuck was that??? First of all, the setting, character development, and evolution of the whole plot is really nice. The premise for The Unmarked Witch is wow...I know I'm a year or two late to the series but the way the world is designed and how we're introduced to all the moving pieces isn't something I think I've come across before. The closest I can think of is Goblet of Fire and that's because the whole premise of that is a competition/trial. Lyn does a really good job of explaining and taking us along on the trials that Raven and the other witches of Moon Coven undergo in order to find a new leader for the coven. In it, we not only see Raven grow and develop but there's also seeing how she faces her challenges not only in the trial but in herself. There's something for everyone and while I'm intrigued to see what continues in The Unbound Witch, I'm also a bit reluctant to continue. I want for her and her loved ones to have a good ending
