I loved the voice of the main character, Molly. I wish I spoke in the way she did to a degree. The character felt unique in comparison to other characters in books. I read some other reviews that said the main character is autistic and that the author did a disservice to the autistic community. I must say that I didn't have that same perspective on the character. It seemed she had a very sheltered life and was very obsessive over one thing, cleaning. She found her niche and excelled in it, and because she excelled others found her difficult. I felt that it's relatable, sometimes in my own life when I want to do something to perfection it annoys others.

There is a discussion in the reviews about undocumented folks and the book describes a utopia where everyone is just on board with assisting someone in that circumstance. I wish that was true. This is a book, so I think it's okay that the author wanted the book to feel that way, the way we wish people treated each other and helped each other. Of course it's unrealistic, but maybe the book is suggesting it doesn't have to be. The main message I heard was that we can help each other.

At one point I thought this was a 5 star book, however, the ending dragged on and felt repetitive and then the twist at the end was rushed. Overall, I would recommend this book because the main character captivated me and I loved her perspective in the world. If these characters were real I would definitely want to be invited to tea.

I liked this one. It was fine. The pacing was great and there were some heartwarming characters. It isn't quite the "thrills and chills" I was expecting based on the BotM categorization. It was more suited for an episode of a syndicated TV show or a short mini series. Enjoyable to read, but not groundbreaking.

I think I'm in a phase where I could do without epilogues or "so many months into the future" final chapters (this book had both).

Molly the Maid is very particular and tends to work in absolutes (think of Sheldon from BBT or Fern from The Good Sister for a similar character). During one shift at the hotel, she discovers the body of a frequent guest and gets wrapped into the investigation of his potential murder.

I think this was supposed to lend to an air of mystery setting, but instead I was more interested in the relationships she had with her coworkers and didn't care too much about the crime.

Am I the only one who hated the ending?

Like the entire epilogue just destroyed everything we thought we knew about Molly’s character. Like I get the whole “rotten horrible man deserves to die” thing but I felt like it just wasn’t done properly and made Molly a whole different character out of know where just to make that a message of the book. It could have been done better.

Also that part in the epilogue (or last chapter, I forget) where she literally explains ever lesson/moral/point the story was trying to make to the readers like we’re fucking toddlers, like you don’t need to explain to me what the book was about in plan English when the entire book you have been telling me what the book was about through the story and event and action of the character.

I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because I really did like the part after Molly got accused where she learns to work with other people and take down the big bad, but then after that it just went awry like if it ended before the epilogue and the serval months later part I would have liked it at lot better.

Such a great read. I believe I'm correct in saying that this is Nita Prose's debut novel and she did an outstanding job! I hate when books are too predictable and I felt like this one had just the right amount of surprises that weren't too far fetched!

I kept going back and forth on my feelings on this book which ultimately led to feeling just lukewarm. I was confused as to where this was supposed to be set which I found very distracting. Sometimes it seemed like it was supposed to be in the UK, sometimes it seemed like it was America. I also found the main character hard to connect/empathize with and found myself not liking her at times (but would like her when other characters treated her poorly lol). Like I said… very back and forth.

While this book in the beginning seems like a detective, the focus is actually more on relationships and personalities, what is “normal” and what behavior is frowned upon. At times, i found it hard to connect to the main character and some parts just felt too cringy. Overall, i did not mind listening to it, but I’m not sure if I’ll remember it 6 months from now.
