A suspenseful romance

This series of books has got me hooked! This book was a little more suspense and a little less romance, but still fun to read. I really enjoyed the detail the author included when it came to describing royal law/expectations. I'm always skeptical of stories where the woman is defenseless and waits for her man to come rescue her. Chey, the main character, danced on the line of being helpless but was able to hold her own in the end. Look forward to reading the next book.

I really enjoyed this book! There were some intense moments - definitely action filled. I felt like most of the plot was original, minus the pregnancy situation. Overall, 4 stars...what American girl doesn't fantasize about being queen in a foreign land??

WOW. WOW. WOOWWW...
Holy Hell... I loved where this series was going... I freaking HATE the King AND Queen. They disgust me. I can't stand them. They both just play dirty...
Sander, oh Sander. You are awesome and amazing. Oh and lets not forget about Mattias either, you sneaky bastard. I laughed a lot in this book. I couldn't put it down. It was that good. I kept getting pissed everytime I was interrupted. I mean, seriously??? I only have so many hours in the weeks d to get my fill of reading... :)

I can NOT even begin to explain how major and amazing this book is. My GOD! I can't even form a coherent thought but I am just floored by the epicness of this fantastic series.

The series is getting much more confident now and are really enjoyable reads. I think there is the perfect mix of romance and tension and though the books sometimes border on completely unrealistic I can't stop reading them.

After having read 3 books of this saga, I just realized something pretty major: If these books ever got made into movies, you could totally make a drinking game out of them! It'd go like this: you drink every time someone on the movie is drinking, and if there's two or more people drinking at the same time, you drink double, or whatever. And you know what? With how much everyone drinks in these things you'd be smashed half-way through the movie! But, seriously. Isn't it a bit disturbing how often drinking is mentioned? And the time of day doesn't even matter! It can be nine in the morning or three in the afternoon and they'll have a tumbler in their hands. It's not as if I don't drink, but at least when I do it's dark outside.
As for the plot, it was full of twists and turns and unearthed secrets that changed everything. Same old, same old. The only thing that wasn't really a shock was
Spoiler Chey's pregnancy (which I'm totally excited about)
. And Mattias was back!! That was awesome! I really missed him in the last book. But where was Wynn? Didn't even get mentioned.
Other things that made the book pretty good
Spoiler The long lost heir, Laud (weird name BTW). The king's suicide (a major shocker). Sander being a bastard (another major shocker). The people demanding the bastard be named King (not a shocker at all). Among other things
.

I really enjoyed this one. More intrigue, more twisty plot points. Angst. Romance. What more could you want. I will say this though,
the addition of the brother that was malformed was weird. It felt like a Sloth moment from Goonies. This brother's part was too short to really feel any emotion when they just killed him off towards the end. I did think the sadness and regret the two brothers felt as a result was well-written, but I didn't feel anything for the death of this other brother itself. Which is disappointing. Should have kept him in longer so I could have grown more attached to him. The revolt of the people at the end was kind of over the top too. I still liked it, but it was kind of like an "oh, okay. That's convenient." moment for me. I'm pretty sure kingdoms don't work that way, but whatever. Also, every time nausea was mentioned in regards to Chey, it was soooo obvious she was pregnant. And she didn't even think about the possibility which was annoying. There wasn't even a "well maybe I'm pregnant" just an automatic "Oh it must be the flu." That just wasn't realistic to me for someone who is having regular sex. Unless she's incredibly naive. Which this character isn't.

I am still enjoying this series enough to want to continue on. I'm not sure what more could happen antagonist-wise with the ending of this book, but I'm still interested.

Reread? Probably
