Sophie and Peter have been best friends forever. Growing up across the street from each other, Sophie has been Peter's link to the outside world as his kidney disease and overprotective parents kept him more and more homebound. Now that Sophie is 18, she opts to test herself and finds she is a match. The summer before her senior year and his junior year, Sophie donates one of her kidneys to Peter. And this changes everything. Now Peter can return to school, make new friends, pursue his music with other people. These aren't the changes Sophie had hoped for though. She thought it would be the two of them, together forever. While it isn't the outcome she was looking for, it might be the one she needed, as they both take time to explore life without the other. Highly recommended for grades 9 & up.

I did not finish this book. I liked everything..up until the author went and added birthright trip to the book. Like she literally has her character's parents praising the birthright trip and I'm not here for that. Not when Palestinians are dying..

Very interesting read about codependent, toxic friendship and growing apart. Would recommend to older teens.

This book was, in my opinion, what it needed to be. It wasn't a cute, happy little story to make the masses of readers happy. Not the ending you maybe expected, but a happy ending regardless.

This book was good but way more dramatic and sad than I anticipated, which is wholly my fault because I'm terrible at reading descriptions and assumed it would be a mutual pining situation or unrequited with a wake up call, mainly because I've read the author's more recent romance stories.

Best friends Sophie and Peter have been close since they were children. But when Sophie gives Peter one of her kidneys, his world opens up and their friendship changes.

An excellent exploration of how relationships are formed and the personal growth that comes when they flex.
