I seriously despised Quinn and Tohr for the majority of this book! They both should have been kicked out of the Brotherhood for treason, and Quinn should have been banned from seeing the kids, just the way he wanted Layla to be banned! He did more to endanger them than anything Layla did!

I found this quite disappointing. Authors are entitled to take their plots where they like/need but they need to take us with them. The majority of this story hinges on some totally weird behaviour by Quinn which, in terms of character development, is simply not explained. WHY did he lose the plot like that? Saying that he is still affected by his childhood etc is not enough. That is readers speculating because Ms Ward hasn't explained it to us. Right from the first moment he started to behave badly through completely losing it to the resolution - none of it makes sense. I spent the whole book waiting for something to happen that would explain it to me, only to finish with disappointment. At one point I wondered whether there was going to be an evil twin reveal because it was so out of sync with the previous story.
This was not the only area I found unbelievable. The relationships between Jane & Vishous, and Tohr and Amber, are very jarring and hard to keep up with.
I think there are also just too many storylines (balls) in the air at once. It makes moving the plot along without losing proper character development impossible in a single book. I loved this series but it is devolving into a paranormal soapie.

Ehhhhhhhhhh....
It's getting to be a little too much for me. The descriptors she uses, all the slang. I also kept having grimacing moments with the way she writes about women. Plus, I kept feeling like she was plotting by the seat of her pants.

As always, Ms. Ward has out done herself. I was really shocked and surprised at the ending, which I loved by the way. I saw her post that the next book would be "The Thief" about Assil and Sol. Not that I haven't been wanting and waiting for that story to come around again, but I was hoping Trez's story would unfold. But if it is any indication on how she writes that could happen in the next BD Legacy or the next BDB book. So I will paitently wait for that excitement to unfold.
If you are new to this series I suggest you put down what you are reading and go pick up the first in the series. I promise you, you will not regret it nor will you put it down.
This story is about The Chosen Layla and her fight for love, family and life a new. The characters are as always flawless and very thought out. The story is a steady pace, but hard to put down. As always Ms Ward focuses on several characters and not just the one center of the story. She writes three or in this case four stories unfolding at the same time with the center story being the end result and leaving you wanting more on the other stories left untold.
Paitiently waiting for BD Legacy #3 and BDB #16 "The Thief". Happy reading!!!

Layla and Xcor. This should be nothing but excitement, drama, suspense, drama, drama, drama. Should be fun!
And herein was the conundrum, Xcor thought behind his closed lids. The only possible way out of this deadly scenario was to reveal the love he’d found for a female who was not his, never had been, and was not e’er going to be.
But he would not sacrifice the Chosen Layla for anyone or anything.
Not even to save himself.
I can see there’s gonna be an awful lot of come-to-Jesus moments throughout this book. Qhuinn is being his usual self, which means I’m 50/50 on empathy with him; Blay is getting the shaft and hurting, which I’m not cool with; and Layla is struggling, although tbh, I thought she should have handled all of this differently to begin with. ‘Course then this story wouldn’t exist so what do I know?
I didn’t realize Therese and Trez would be introduced so soon…
Later, she would wonder exactly why she stepped up. After all, the guy could have been a stalker ID-ing his next target, some kind of mentally unstable whack job in a city where she knew no one and had nobody to turn to if she got herself in over her head. But her instincts told her she was not in danger.
Of course, it turned out that that assumption was wrong, although not because he presented any physical threat to her. No, it was damage of another sort that he eventually brought.
Sometimes, though, for destiny to work, it had to make sure you were blind going into things. Otherwise, you would turn your wheel and hit your brakes…and avoid your fate like the plague.
I’m definitely feeling as if there are too many side plot lines. Again.
Qhuinn is on my last fucking nerve! How many psychotic breakdowns does he need to have before he gets his shit together. Not to mention I’m tired of the same fights between him and Blay. Tohr’s behavior, oth, I can almost understand except his complete disregard for Wrath’s decree. Boys with too much testosterone!
Really? Seriously, JR? We’re going back to V possibly wanting to cheat on Jane? Didn’t this shit and their relationship woes get tidied up? Come on. One more side line that doesn’t need to be there!
Layla is way more kickass than any of the males. Taking on Tohr the way she did was straight up awesome!
She was a mahmen. She was a lover. She was a proud female, a strong female, a female who knew right from wrong, family from stranger, good from evil. She had lived through two birthings and stood up to a Brother just now, and she would take on the King if she had to. She was fallible and could get confused and might well flounder from time to time.
But she would survive. That was what the strong did.
Meeting her eyes in the mirror, she looked at her face for what felt like the first time. She had spent all those years waiting in the Sanctuary to be called into her role as ehros, her existence at once totally dictated and yet groundless, for there was no Primale to pleasure. And then she had bumped and bounced around on earth after she and her sisters had been freed, tiptoeing timidly in the unfamiliar ways of modern life. There had been the desperate needing with Qhuinn, and then the anxiety as the young had grown within her—during which her life had been split in half with Xcor. Following that? The birth that had nearly killed her and now the agony of the disintegration of her family unit…and the pending loss of Xcor.
Yet she was still alive and she was here. Looking at herself in the mirror.
And for the first time in her life, she respected what she saw. Bowing to her reflection, she said softly, “Pleased to meet you.”
After my many criticisms enclosed here, you might wonder why I’m still giving this a 5* rating… pretty much it’s mainly because of Layla and Xcor. Mostly Layla but Xcor has truly proven himself! So, I loved their portion of this book.

Oh my.
This was...brilliant.
For me, J.R. Ward books start at 5 stars and can only get knocked down. I thought I would hate this but only because I REALLY don't like Qhuinn and he didn't let me down by acting like a wretched person for 90% of this book. But things happened in this that will have far reaching consequences for books to come.

3.5 the boys let it down
OK i officially hate Qhuinn what he did is unforgivable... what a complete tool... Not only to Layla but to his kids and Blay too... he is soo self centred..... Firing a gun at your kids mother when they are in the room... he needs to be sectioned!

A few of the brothers really let me down in this book.
V is all over the place with his feelings again.... His mate is running around trying to patch up the brotherhood and he expected her undivided attention... I just hope they dont need another book for him to get over himself.....

Thor although redeemed himself was acting a bit crazy killer there for a while too...
Other than those three stooges....
Aww i loved Xcor just a little bit more..... Layla found her hypothetical balls.... And throe i think is aiming to be the next Omega!!!!
Grand Exalted Pooh-Bah the new scribe virgin....
