My favorite part was at the very end where I was instructed to rewind the tape for the next patron on a downloaded digital audiobook.

Love the battle, tactics, camaraderie, and the history.

The second of the Sharpe books (if reading in chronological order) and this is where the man from the ranks earns his commission.

There are superb characters, tremendous battle descriptions and of course, the futility of war made ever present.

As enjoyable and engaging as ever Cornwell is a master of his craft.

Maybe I read these books too close together and should have went somewhere else first, but this novel doesnt really do that much different to the first one which I really enjoyed. I am going to continue and move on too the third novel Fortescue but with a bit of a longer gap.

Sharpe is always a lovely escape. This was a reread so I knew the ending but it still feels like such a big moment and makes me grin like a fool. Col McCandless is also one of my favourite Sharpe characters. Again I love the India details and will doubtless reread Sharpe’s Fortress soon.
