This book is filled with such strong and well written characters. I enjoyed how strong Blue was from start to finish. Kellan never wanting to be a normal prince and struggling to be just that. How unique Nessa was and the character written to be represent someone within the special needs community.
This is one of my favorites - another 5 star read π. If you haven't read this or any of C.J. Redwines books, you're missing out. You need to go check them out and read this book and all her books.
I love Blue and Kellan and the story is awesome. It was a hard book to put down - almost read it all in one night. Go read it now πβ€οΈ!

Let me be very clear, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Ravenspire fairy tales

If you are looking for a fairy tale reimagining series to really indulge in, I recommend this one.
CJ Redwine has a way of taking the points of the tales and making them turn into something different and new and amazing.
So clearly this is the Cinderella story of the series, and no surprise the names show that.

Blue is our Cinderella... and she is full of spunk and desire to live life. Yet, she also has fears and worries... those fears are only magnified as an evil witch starts to wreak havoc on the people of Balavata.
And then we get Prince Kellan... he's a much better Prince Charming than the one from the original fairy tale... granted he's not perfect and that is what makes him such perfect book boyfriend material.

(in fact if you ever are looking for a new book boyfriend, pick up any of CJ Redwine's books, you'll get one... I'm sure of it)
Anyway, all the twists that you expect from Cinderella are in this book, but NEVER where you expect them to be... which makes the whole reading experience fun. I'm not going to say anything else and ruin the ride. But if you want to gush over this one, feel free to leave me a comment!

A fun retelling of Cinderella, with diverse characters and regular bickering teens, with the obvious plot.
I mean, you go into retellings of fairytales knowing how it will end, no matter how much the details changes, and with The Blood Spell, you get exactly what you came for.
A fun twist of a well known story, with a little bit more of magic and a romance a bit more developed since you actually get to meet the prince as a main character.
Itβs the first book of this author I read in her retelling series so I might check the others out if I come across them at the library.

I enjoy the Ravenspire series, and this one just became my favorite. This is similar to the other Cinderella retelling that I have read, but with an added element of magic and maybe a bit darker with the blood-eating monster. I loved Blue and Kellan relationship, though it was a little cringy when I thought that was going to heal each other from the grief by love. Not really the case but a little to close for my liking. They have a history and the angst level was off the chart sometimes but super enjoyable. I also like how this is a stand-alone with easter eggs from the other book in the series. (all of the Ravenspire books are like this)!
3.5 stars. There was a lot of repetitive telling the reader, and the ending was blink-and-it's-over fast. Deaths were clearly used as plot devices, and some things were telegraphed from a mile away. Not bad, but enjoyed the others in the series more.
This was my favorite book in the series other than the Shadow Queen. The characters were great and well developed, never annoying, and the decisions they were making made sense. I did figure a few things out several chapters before the characters did, but that doesn't bother me. I was still surprised by one of the twists in the book and was happy with the ending.
Really 4.5. An excellent rendering of Cinderella without all the Cinderella as a damsel in distress and fleshing out Prince Charming. Loved it!
This didn't do it for me nearly as much as the previous installments did. Blue's justice seeking for children seemed like a plot device rather than a genuine character trait and made absolutely no sense. If Kellan winked anymore I'd swear he had a vision problem. And the villain was one dimensional at best and extremely boring.
The only characters worth a damn were Nessa and badass Grandmere.
