Broken.
Nami is a broken woman.
She wasn't broken by one act, no she survived that. She was broken by friends betrayal and the world calling her a liar and a whore.

But broken and dead aren't the same thing. Naomi is about to realize that she is still alive and broken things can be fixed or mended.

Survivors are strong and Nami is very strong. She just has to realize that too.

Nami's epiphany comes in the form of a man. A man who doesn't listen to her words but knows her thoughts. A man who sees her through her fears. A man named Law, Nick Law.

It is a very well written story. Nami is in a dark place in this story. You can feel it in the writing. I wasn't able to read straight through because of it. I needed Facebook breaks to get out of the funk. Her story and need for revenge definitely pull you in.

I wanted to read Elastic Heart as soon as I saw that Ms. Gebhard wrote it and the synopsis made me want to read it even more! It's unique and weird at times, but not a bad weird, just weird weird. Despite all that, though, I'm glad I read it and it was completely worth it!

Law might have a first name, but to Nami and me, he'll always be Law. I pretty much liked him instantly - he was funny, amusing, and very determined. Law is sweet, patient, and understanding - he is just one of the good guys. He's not perfect, of course, he has his flaws and he can be a bit of a jerk sometimes, but I loved him anyway and I know you will too!

Nami is a little crazy, maybe even a lot crazy, but I can't blame her for the way she is and I really admire and respect her. She's been through so much and she's strong, rough, fierce, and she's a fighter. Nami is really just amazing - first because of her strength and most importantly because after all she's gone through - she still has a good heart and soul.

Elastic Heart isn't an easy or particularly enjoyable read and there were some times where I wondered what would be the point of reading it for other people if they weren't already fans of Ms. Gebhard if I couldn't say that I enjoyed or loved it. I can't say for sure when everything changed and those doubts went away, but I can honestly say that they did. They went away because I realized all the weirdness, the occasional feeling like I was seeing an old over-dramatized film, the cringeworthy moments, and the pain served a purpose and gave way to something bigger. Elastic Heart might be heartbreaking, sob-worthy, and horrifying, but it's also so beautiful and full of wisdom and depth that it definitely makes it worth reading!

Elastic Heart is a standalone, it's told only from Nami's POV, and Nami and Law are living out their beautiful happily-ever-after!

I think it’s easy to say that MCG really knows how to capture her audience. I was hooked from the first page all the way to the bittersweet end.
Nami is not having a good time. Her life is no longer her own, simply a shell of what it used to be.
Law is not taking no for an answer.... actually that might be the wrong message to put here. Law wants to help her find who she is again, by whatever means necessary.
Between the two of them, they do the absolute unthinkable. They find hope.
Highly recommend this read, just be prepared.
MCG never takes it easy on us, don’t expect her to start now.

If you are sensitive to rape, do not read this book. This was an amazing book. I loved it and Law and Nami. I wish I could read more of their story. Nami is a girl who volunteered for a senator. When she is raped by him she decides to tell the police but no one believes her and calls her a liar. So she ends up stalking him to try to get evidence. In all of this she meets Law, who is trying to get evidence against the senator as well. He ends up fall in love with Nami. He shows her that she's an amazing person despite what has happened to her. And that doesn't change her or how he feels about her. Soon after all of this it's brought to light that the senator had raped another girl and that after this is known more girls come forward and justice ends up being served. Nami and Law end up moving on with their lives leaving behind Senator Morris. I can't wait to read more by this author.

I really loved this book so much! Nami had such issues to work through going into the book, and Law was the perfect man to go along for the ride!

I really liked this slow burn enemies to lovers romance. We have Nami who was slowly dying because of a dark event in her life. She was all about the revenge that she needed. Law on the other hand is trying to help her thru it. She fought him every step of the way. I loved her moxie. She wasn’t giving up, but she wasn’t living either. I loved when she told us “law was my compass”. He was her map. He pulled her through.

Emotional, heart wrenching and oddly cathartic.

Everything about this book hit me DEEP IN THE FEELS, so so deep. MCG crawled into my skin and pulled out my veins rerouting the inner workings to my heart.

There is a rawness in this story that feels way too real.

Law was irresistible as much as he was a hard pull to swallow and the h for most part felt too melancholic- but that’s the thing with depression. It eats away at you while you struggle to stay alive.

4 HEART WRENCHING STARS.

This is my first book by Mary Catherine Gebhard and I really enjoyed this read.

In this book, we follow Nami and Nick. Nick is really sweet and seems genuinely concerned about Nami and her overall well-being. He has the patience of a saint and I think was a great opposite to Nami. Now as for Nami, she’s a tricky one. I liked her I really did, but I just couldn’t for the life of me connect with her. I thought she was unbelievably strong and smart, especially everything she has gone through. But She was SO DANG STUBBORN. She was so set in her ways of thinking that everyone and everything was bad when one person, Nick, just wanted to help her see that there are good people in the world. Overall, the book drew me in and I really enjoyed this read. Though I do think that this book had so much more potential and it fell just a little short for me and kind of had my head spinning at times. I enjoyed the book and the story, but it just felt like it was missing something.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I received this eARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

This book grabbed me from the first page. The heroine has been sexually assaulted and nobody believes her. As the story progresses, you really feel everything that she goes through. She's a shell of who she used to be, and her saving grace comes in the form of a new stranger who she distrusts. I liked the journey that this author took us on! I loved feeling the emotions of our heroine, and while it was a bit slow at times, I liked how she had their connection go from point A to point B. There was just enough mystery built into this story to keep me intrigued. I wouldn't call it a dark read, as some other reviewers have. It's a wonderful contemporary romance with a touch of mystery and a ton of emotion.

2.5 stars
I looked forward to reading this story, but unfortunately it's 2.5 stars from me. There was just too much going on in this book. Less twists would have worked better.
The ending / conclusion wasn't what I expected, I thought he would go down with a BOOM thanks to Nami.

I loved the writing style and Law (despite his secrets)! And can't stop thinking about Rashkol
