Foreplay is the first book in a new series by author Sophie Jordan. Sophie Jordan is well known in the young adult genre for her Firelight Series. Foreplay is the first book in The Ivy Chronicles geared for the New Adult genre. The main characters are Reece and Pepper.

Pepper has always had a crush on her best friends brother, Hunter. He is reliable, safe and cute. With her life planned out in her head, Pepper is determined to have Hunter now that he is single. Since Pepper has no experience with dating or with men, her friends decide to find her a man that would be able to help in that department with no strings attached. They decide to use the town playboy that everyone has been talking about from the local bar/club. This is where Reece enters the scene and ladies, pick your chin up and wipe the drool. Not only is he sexy and hot, he is sweet and charming too! He has manners and is an all around good guy. I will say that Reece is not what you expect while reading this book. There is a curve ball thrown in to make you rethink the mysterious aura that is surrounding Reece. By the end of the book you will have a hard time choosing between Hunter and Reece just like Pepper.

The only reason I didn’t give this book the highest rating is because it did drag in some parts of the story. There were a few times I just wanted the author to get on with the story already and get rid of some of the ‘filler’ pages. This is one series though that I am excited to read more of in the future!

I’m going to be very straightforward with this. This book is good, honestly. It’s interesting, sexy, sometimes funny and it just keeps you hooked, at least it did to me. Yet, it is not one of those books you just have to tell your friends about and try to convince them to read it. It’s very light, romantic, sensual, something you read very quickly, and something you read when you just want some sexy, romantic, happy-ending treat xD

The main character, Pepper, is very sweet and innocent, who just idealizes that she will have a perfect marriage with her brother’s best friend, Hunter. It annoyed throughout the book, because she just kept, on and on and on about making Hunter fall in love with her , then they would marry and have 2.5 children…. *yawns*

Anyway, since she is a virgin, her friends take her out at night to hook her up with the bar tender, the so-called playboy who can teach her the ways of “love-making” (typical, might I add). So she meets the bar tender, major hottie, heart-throb, etc.

After seeing each other for a couple of times, Reece (bar tender’s name, aka Cheese xD), starts “teaching”Pepper foreplay… so Pepper can later apply it to Hunter.

Obviously they fall for each other, but idiot Pepper still insists she must stay with Hunter. Hunter takes a notice on her at last, they start dating, until something tragic happens (not too tragic), Pepper finally sees the light and gets together with Reece.

Seems like a very simple plot, which it is, but I quite liked it. There’s more to it, I don’t want to ruin the book for those who haven’t read it. I know I kind of spoiled the end, but still, it was just too obvious, so I guess I didn’t spoil too much xD

Btw, Pepper is such a stupid name xD

I will admit that at this point, I am a huge fan of the New Adult genre. I am always up for reading more of these stories, even if most of them usually have very similar story-lines or situations. At first glance, Foreplay sounds as though it is going to be like others out there. But I quickly realized that that was not the case with Sophie Jordan's Foreplay. I loved the characters in this story, I loved that there wasn't a cliffhanger ending, and I really loved that we got to see how even the best laid plans can change without us even knowing its happening!

Pepper had a tough childhood. After her father died, her mother couldn't take care of her as she should and dropped Pepper off to live with her grandmother. Pepper grows up with her best friend Lila and Lila's brother Hunter. They have the perfect family life and Pepper wants nothing more than to marry Hunter and join the family for real. There is just the problem of her not having much experience with boys and Hunter's girlfriend Paige. But when Hunter is suddenly single, Pepper decides it is time to gain the experience and make Hunter see how perfect they could be together. Pepper's suite-mates have heard rumors about a bartender who knows exactly what he is doing when it comes to girls, and they convince Pepper that he would be the perfect teacher for her to learn some foreplay. Reece the bartender ends up being nothing like what Pepper was expecting, and end up spending quite a bit of time together. But their foreplay lessons become more about feelings and each other than helping Pepper prepare for Hunter. Soon, Pepper and Reece are both wanting more from each other even though Pepper is still convinced that she needs to end up with Hunter. But when she finally gets a chance with Hunter, will it be everything she always dreamed of? Or will her new connection and relationship with Reece be what she really needs and wants?

I loved Reece! Hot and sexy while being caring and sweet. I was rooting for his character from the start. He has a tough past as well as Pepper and that made him sometimes try and push her away. But even though he would sometimes try to keep her at arm's length, you could tell the whole time he was struggling with his growing feelings for her and that he really did care about her. Pepper was a little naive and immature, and she thought that she needed a certain type of life for her future. I think that Reece was perfect for her, because he really started to open her eyes to her shortsightedness about what she thought she needed and wanted. Although Hunter was nice and familiar, I never felt as though he was right for Pepper. There was just never a spark there. However with Pepper and Reece, they barely had to be around each other before it seemed as though they would ignite! They were super hot together and had some amazing chemistry! I loved that he was patient with her and that he seemed to not only care about the physical stuff with Pepper. They were very fun to read about and I loved Pepper and Reece together.

Overall, this book is one that I absolutely couldn't put down. Pepper and Reece made me fall for them, and I really felt their connection from the start. They were sweet and sexy together, and I thought that they really balanced each other out. I loved their steamy scenes, but what really got me were the sweet ones. This story was full of wonderful characters that were deep and interesting. Sophie Jordan may have been a new to me author before reading Foreplay, but I am now a fan! I cannot wait to read more from her in the future! I am especially excited to read more in this series, The Ivy Chronicles, and see some of the other characters get their HEAs as well as hopefully see some more of Reece and Pepper. Fans of romance filled with both sweet and sexy should definitely read this story. I think most romance readers will be like me and find it impossible not to fall in love with Reece and Pepper.

Good but nothing too special. I think the ending might've killed it for me. It was a bit over the top and wrapped up too quickly. And the writing became super cheesy where I couldn't handle it anymore. It was like a completely different style from the rest of the story.

I’ve been a big fan of Sophie Jordan and her historical romances for a while so it was a bit of a leap for me to try her New Adult work with the start of her Ivy Chronicles series. Pepper has been in love with the same man for almost her whole life and when he finally becomes single she knows that this is her time to let him know how she feels. Except she has absolutely no experience with guys. Enter sexy bartender Reece who will help show Pepper the ropes when it comes to getting close to guys. But as they explore further Pepper starts to question her feelings for her long time love because the sparks she feels with Reece and stronger than she could ever imagine. Really sweet, sexy read. Loved the cast of characters and am excited for where they can go from here. Fun read!

This was another one of Sophie's easy and drama-filled romance reads. The characters were super funny and had all the flaws of a gut-wrenching romance. I loved the characters in the book and the witty female. I think the book had more potential for an in-depth storyline but it was an easy and quick read.

I’m sorry but if you go into this book thinking you will read about any foreplay, much less actual sex, you will not get what you think. Most of the foreplay in this book is in the title. The sex scenes are minimal and a page or two of non-descriptive—oh wait, she just came? Yeah, that’s how, let’s say, climactic these scenes are.

I should have known better than to read anything else by Sophie Jordan after repeated disappointments with every single historical of hers that made promises they never once delivered on.

I don’t know how she’s a best seller when her characters are routinely flat and boring and the chemistry between the MCs is barely existent. Also, this premise about practicing sex (“the boy girl thing” which I think is how the heroine in this book puts it (total UGH)) for the future—could and should be a super hot read, I haven’t yet found a good one, so if you know of one, please let me know!

And finally, the kink club? Chekhov’s kink club, I guess. I assume it will be in the next book in the series but also assume it will be BORING AS HELL.
