3.5, rounding up. TW: suicide, depression, death
The concept for this story was so interesting, and I wish there had been a little more world building. A few more details about just how people moved from vehicle to vehicle, how not being near sunlight affected humans (besides “seasickness”), what happened to everything in the Old World that wasn’t preserved? Once the water moved in, where did the debris go? What happened to the flooded cemeteries? Even just a few more details would have made it stronger.
Other than that, I really enjoyed reading this book. The summary made it seem like the race would be a much longer part of the story than it was, and it turned into more of an adventure than I was expecting.

I just wanna start off by saying I'm normally the type of person to get invested in most characters. However, in this book I just didn't really care about what was going on. I tried really hard to get into it, and I found myself more interested in Ari's life than our main character's. One of the major problems I had with this book was the world-building. I just wanted to know more so that I could have a better understanding of what was going on, but I just never found out. Anyway, overall it was okay and It was an amazing concept, but I feel like it just didn't work for me.

I skimmed through this. Honestly, I wanted to like this. The concept is neat, but overall the story was bland. So many familiar tropes were involved here that nothing shocked me. And I didn't connect with any of the characters enough to make reading worth my time.
Honestly, it kind of felt like a really dumbed down version of the Newsflesh trilogy. Underwater monsters instead of zombies, but same kind of concept with the government being corrupt and creating fear.
But this book had none of the charm or emotional impact as the Newsflesh trilogy. Plus, the dog was pointless. No purpose whatsoever for a character that's actually fairly heavily used in the book.

Another interesting book altho I feel it was still a bit convoluted. That being said, I'll be continuing this to find out what happens to Ari.

This had some great ideas, but didn’t quite work for me. I liked the idea of the setting, and Leyla’s faith, but there were some pretty big plot holes and inconsistencies.
