Love how the characters from the Perfect Chemistry series tied into this book.

I loved the first book.
I hated this one.
Monika is the most boring person ever. She has no personality, she's stubborn for no good reason, and she's always crying.
Vic is supposed to be some hardass badass but his POV makes him sound like a whiny, pathetic girl. He feels sorry for himself constantly while pining after Monika. It's quite sad how pathetic he is.

As soon as I saw the blurb I groaned. I knew one of two things was going to happen. Either Monika was going to cheat on Trey, or the author was going to turn Trey into a jerk so she could be with someone else without feeling guilty. It was the second one. Either way, I knew I wasn't going to be happy because I hate cheating and I hate when guys are suddenly made into jerks (when they weren't before) just so someone else can be with the girl.
I also thought this book would be light hearted and entertaining like the first book. It wasn't. halfway through, something unexpected happens and it made the rest of the book depressing as hell and dark. Vic's self-pity got old and annoying. Monika's pining over Vic right after
Spoiler Trey died
was disgusting. Even if he did suddenly become a jerk, she immediately lusted over someone else, thinking more about him than she did Trey.
I hated this book. Everything I loved about the first book was missing in this one.

2.5 stars. Guy in love with best friend's girl, then tragedy strikes. I like that they gave the girl some interesting issues to be dealing with, no spoilers.

Quick read with a lot of emotions

I love Simone’s books. They seem to all have something important to learn about or learn from. They are real!

This picks up right after Wild Cards and in the beginning I had some trouble remembering who everyone was. This was a quick read which I ended up finishing in two sittings. I really enjoyed this. I loved Vic, I loved his relationship with Trey and his feelings for Monika. He loves Trey and doesn't want to betray him and yet at the same time his feelings for Monika are tearing him apart. I loved Monika, espically her friendship with Ashtyn. I enjoyed seeing previous characters from Elkeles previous books; Derek, Ashtyn, Alex and Isa (who's ending made me tear up). My only complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed and I wished there was an epilogue.

What in the world has gotten into Simone Elkeles? This was CRINGEWORTHY bad. I think I've read rough drafts that were formed better than this. The dialogue was utter crap. I can't even beat around the bush. The character development? What character development? This entire book was extremely immature and poorly constructed. I did not think highly of the first book in this series, but this one was on another level of bad.

She used to be one of my go-to YA Contemporary fiction authors, but I'm scared to recommend her if this is what she's publishing now. Shame on her editors and publishing company for allowing this. She can do so much better.

Wild Crush failed to achieve the standard I've created based on other Simone Elkeles stories I've read. In comparison to the perfection that is Perfect Chemistry, Wild Crush was flat and sub par.

My first problem is that Monika claimed to like Victor before she liked Trey and yet she dated Trey for three years without incident. She never mentions not being satisfied with her relationship Trey and wanting to be with Vic, other than that one time, until Trey becomes emotionally distance. When Monika realizes that she is no longer emotionally satisfied by her relationship with Trey and that another male, Vic, is being nice to her, she begins to think that Vic would be a partner and begins to notice him more. I didn't like how Monika developed a crush on Vic not because he was a great guy or wooed her but because she wasn't happy with her boyfriend and Vic was the next available candidate. Sure Trey wasn't being faithful so they would have broken up anyway. But it's one thing to notice a guy after a relationship or to realize she always preferred one guy over the other and it's another to want to be with a guy because he could potentially provide her with something her current boyfriend isn't giving her.

I think what threw me off about Wild Crush was the lack of grit and fight. The Perfect Chemistry series was dark because of the gang violence and interesting because the Fuentes brothers fought to be better and fought for the women they wanted. Wild Cards was interesting because Derek fought for Ashtyn. But there's no fight in Wild Crush. Monika and Vic both claim to want to be in a relationship with the other but do nothing about it. When Monika finally decided to do something, she makes one feeble attempt and when that doesn’t work, she gives up. In return, when Victor decides to go after Monika, his “love declaration” is immediately accepted and the story is over. They don't fight for each other and they don't prove that they belong together. At the end, they claim they'll be together forever but they don't provide any evidence that they are compatible other than not feeling alone when they are around each other. If that's the basis of a healthy, long-term relationship, then I guess I can go to any library, bookstore, or cafe and if I don't feel lonely sitting next to some guy, then he's my next boyfriend.

I'm not sure what this story was trying to be. It wasn't two people fighting to be together and it wasn't an enemies-to-lovers trope. I guess it can be considered a friends-to-lovers relationship but it was executed poorly. In a nutshell, the story went: I've loved her since I met her three years ago. I think I might like like him. Fluff. I want this to work. No. I want this to work. Yes. And they lived happily ever after.

I liked the characters Vic has this bad boy persona but it’s easy to see his good heart. It seemed pretty rushed at the end, I wish I would have seen more development with Vic and his dad and more between the main two. They were perfect but it seemed rushed.

No one, and I mean no one, knows how to write an angsty, omg-my-life-is-shit-I'm-worthless-I-should-just-push-everyone-away like Simone Elkeles.

And I mean no one.

Now don't get me wrong. I love Ms. Elkeles and I love all her novels. But damn, I swear every single guy is exactly the same. Wah wah wah. Woe is me. We get it.

P.S. Loved Isa being in the novel. Loved Alex's cameo. Brilliant.

This book wasn't nearly as good as the other one. I don't quite like the lack of ambition in the male protagonist, but I think that's just part of his character. His best friend doesn't overdose and he does want her girlfriend, so… the dilemma is strong. But then they end up together
