This was an alright book, but it felt like it took a long time to read (it really didn't take that long). The pacing was alright, but compared to others I've read, it felt a little slow.
Mowgli was a nice boy, so it was sad when he had to leave the jungle due to them rejecting him. I was also sad when the men rejected him because he was able to speak to the wolves - he had just killed Shere Khan and then they were saying he was bad - what else do they expect when they know he was raised in the jungle?
Overall, it was an alright book, but it just wasn't one of my favorites.

Kipling has a lovely talent at poetry and world building. I enjoyed the Mowgli stories, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, and The White Seal. The final two stories were grueling to get through and I honestly couldn’t give an accurate synopsis.
While I wanted to give The Jungle Book a fair shot, Kipling reminded me that there is no separation between his children’s tales and imperialistic agendas.

I listened to this audiobook while I made a puzzle from The Jungle Book, haha.
Another classic! I had no idea The Jungle Book was essentially a collection of short stories. I grew up with Disney's Jungle Book, so it wasn't what I expected at all. But I actually really liked it! The writing was good, and I loved the characters. Most of the stories were interesting, though the last two weren't my favourites. You can definitely tell that this book was written in a different time period, due to the racism, sexism and the amount of violence in a children's book. But I feel like it's expected from a book written in 1894.
Overall, 3.5/5 rounded up.

Gildart Jackson narrates this Fireside Reading of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Once again, Gildart does a fabulous job intoning the various characters and building suspense in the right places for the stories. In addition to his narration, there is music at the beginning and end of each chapter fitting with the scenery for The Jungle Book. With each section of the audiobook being a chapter long, this could easily be listened to either in one prolonged sitting or a chapter per night as a bedtime story. I highly recommend listening to Jackson’s version of this book!
Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.
