Knitting in the City has fast become one of my favorite romantic comedy series, and Beauty and the Mustache is now one of my favorite books within the series. I started listening to the audio book version when I needed a pick me up, and it delivered in a big way. Joy Nash’s narration is perfection—southern accent and all.

This is Ashley Winston’s story, and the setting moves from Chicago to backwoods Tennessee when Ashley returns to her hometown to care for an ailing family member. The change of scenery doesn’t mean the ladies from the knitting circle aren’t present. They are very much included in the story, and I can’t seem to get enough of these hilarious and supportive women. They are ride or die friends.

Coming home means a long overdue reunion with Ashley’s five colorful brothers. I’ve already read the Winston Brothers books, so it was especially exciting to learn more about their history. I absolutely adored Ashley and her strong yet humble personality. Her wise mama and Drew—the inscrutable, poetic Park Ranger hottie—are two major shining stars of the story.

I was surprised by the amount of truly touching moments there are; however, the typical humor you would expect from a Penny Reid novel is sprinkled generously throughout. I can always depend on her clever writing, entertaining characters, and thoughtful plotting of storylines. Ditto for Beauty and the Mustache.

I didn’t start the Winston Brothers series with this book, mostly because I listened to Neanderthal Seeks Human and really disliked it, so I skipped the whole Knitting In The City series. The further into the world of Billy, Jethro, Cletus, Beau, Daryl, Ashley and Roscoe the more I felt I owed it to myself to circle back and see how Ashley got her happily ever after too.

This book was so perfect. Drew is loving, quiet, thoughtful, sweet and supportive for the entire family as they prepare for the loss of their momma, Bethany. Bethany was friends with Drew for years before she got sick and kind of adopted him into her already large family. Drews poetry is beautiful and makes the love story between him and Ash so deep and lovely. I’m glad I went back to read this one.

I had already tried to read the Winston Brothers, book 1. I tried 2 times unsuccessfully. I then listened to the audio book, and found it to be much better. Weird. Anyway, in the process of listening to Truth or Beard, I discovered this book. The Winston sister book.

Although it was really, really long (12 hrs and 21 min), I enjoyed it for the most part. There were a number of humorous moments. I started out not really liking Ashley, but she grew on me. Drew was a different kind of H, but I liked the way that he was kind dependable, and supportive.

The whole situation with the mother was heartbreaking. Something I could totally relate to. In fact, if anyone has lost someone close to them, this may be a difficult read.

I thought the narration was good. I haven't come across many female narrator's who can read the male parts and make me forget that the scenes are being read by a female.

I liked how Ashley was able to learn about her brothers and see them in a different light. Some things I heard in this book served as explanations for some things I heard in Truth or Beard.

I think the only real drawback for me was the length of the audio book. I would recommend you read or listen to this book before you start the Winston Brothers series. Its not mandatory, but it would have added to the enjoyment for me.

Loved how you brought back love letters. I didn't found it corny because there was so much raw emotion in it. It was impossible not to feel their love for each other. Definitely a close favorite in this series.

The beginning was fun but I got tired of reading it towards the end.

Ashley Austen Winston escaped her small town in Tennessee, but she still keeps in touch with her mother. When her mom doesn't answer calls for a couple of days, Ashley ends up in Tennessee at the hospital in Knoxville finding out that her mom is sick and not going to make it. Enter Federal Marshall Drew Runous, Ashley's six loveable brothers and enough family drama and angst to fill in an abandoned coal mine. This book had me laughing out loud to the point of tears as we got to know the brothers as the adults that Ashley was also meeting and dying over the tension between her and Drew. Drew's distance is honorable and very cowboy (he is from Texas, after all) and he is Ashley's rainstorm. I haven't read any of the other KITC books, so the Chicago friends melted together for me.
